(More customer reviews)After trying the first mission in Thief 2:The Metal age I was dazzled. The developers at Ion Storm have truly lived up to the promise of a better sequel for we slobbering Thief fans. The original Thief was thought not to do well because of its twist on the first-person shooter. But when it hit the shelves it sold like hot cakes. To those of you run-and-gun fans this might not be the game for you. Thief 2 consists heavily on keeping out of sight and sticking to the shadows. You are not a war hero that can take some few thousand bullet wounds, you are no more than a common thief trying to hold your own. The game has changed a significantly since the original game. The characters in Thief 2 are much smoother and less blocky looking. The physics have also had a dramatic change with new fog effects and etc. The AI's intelligence has been increased as well. This game is fun to play and if you buy it, it will take some time to complete. It can be dificult at times so I suggest buying a strategy guide. I can't tell you how much fun it is when a nobleman offends you, and then you loot him for all he's worth. This is definetly one to get.

Thief Gold (small box version) Review

(More customer reviews)This game is one of the original stealth action games. It is entertaining and completely immersive. If you like first-person shoot-em-up games... don't play Thief. Well, do play Thief, because it's great, but it's a completely different experience.
Don't come to Thief hoping to go slashing merrily towards your goal. Oftentimes slashing your way towards any goal is a sure-fire way to fail a mission. (It's called Thief, not Murderer) The levels set out challenges that have to be met with subtlety and innovation, which, personally, is more satisfying to me. It's not quite as interactive as Thief 3, where you can change the environment to snare enemies, but, as the game that started it all, it is just as entertaining.
The levels in Thief Gold give you a variety of goals, and there are multiple strategies for playing. This game spawned its own following with different kinds of players, and a community of fans which is still operating today. This game is simply a lot of fun, and the Gold version gives you even more levels and challenges.
As far as the ages that this game is appropriate for, I'd say that the level is fairly mature. It's not too gory, just because the graphics are old, but this doesn't take away from the experience, and you still have to deal with zombies, blood splatters, and cinematics which are animated well, and with a distinctive style not seen in modern games. (someone referenced the eye-popping scene, it's not too graphic, and doesn't show much, but it could be disturbing for young-uns)

(More customer reviews)Graphics : Sweet. Gameplay : difficult at first, but once you understand the control scheme, you quickly get the hang of the rest. Incredible particle effects. Very well done music. Replayability : moderate to none. That's the only downside. The game has good length, and a fun idea as a plotline. But, there are not too many twists and turns plotwise, so that pulls quite a bit away from re-playability. This ran well with the minimum specs on my system : AMD XP 2800 -- 512 MG DDR RAM -- 128 MG GeFORCE 4 5600. For the sheer shooting power of the game, i would recommend it. But, don't expect extreme depth in the gameplay. Just a good bit of fun.
