Microsoft Office Professional 2007 FULL VERSION Review

Microsoft Office Professional 2007 FULL VERSION

(More customer reviews)
I feel like I really gave this version of office a fair chance. I have tried and tried to adapt to it, but I just can't get over the fact I have lost productivity based on having to relearn software I felt I was pretty good at using. I now do more hunting and clicking for features where I once knew where everything was and now the new interface is one gigantic mess. I feel that Microsoft really blew it this time; I suppose its par for the course with the rest of the lousy products they have released this year. (But that's another review). Clearly we have run out of ideas for evolving a word processor if you have to completely revamp the interface. I read an article once published by Microsoft indicating the reason for the redesign was because there were a lot of features buried in menus and dialog boxes that few people knew about. If people are not using certain features, maybe the majority just don't care and want to use a word processor for something like... oh I don't know, typing a document.
The new interface for Word and Excel I can deal with, I don't like, but if I had to keep it, I could deal with it. Access on the other hand is a complete disaster. I hate it. It appears to me that somebody got really board and went crazy with the outlook style collapsible sidebars. The interface is so convoluted; it used to be so easy to switch between forms, queries, and table with the tabbed window. I do like the new ability to save to previous versions of Access (finally).
So with that said, I must admit, I really like the new Outlook 2007. It is the only application in the suite that Microsoft actually improved the product and didn't butcher. I like the new side bars with the calendar events and to do lists. One option I wish Microsoft would implement is a way to configure all outlook folders to be the same settings when I change the settings for one folder. For example, I do not like the reading pane or the group by setting, which is the default setting for a new folder. It's a pain to have to go through each folder and set it up like my other folders.
Luckily we can have multiple versions of office installed on the same PC. I have removed Office 2007 and reinstalled Office 2003. BTW, a lesson learned: If you want both Office suites installed, install 2003 first then 2007. If you install 2007 first then 2003, bad things happen. So remove 2007 and install 2003 then 2007. I reinstalled Office 2003 on my PC and installed just Outlook 2007 and Word 2007. I wanted to keep Outlook 2007, but you will need Word as well for the spell checker (shared components) and Outlook also uses word as the email editor.
All in all, if you like Office 2003 or earlier and you want to remain productive without relearning software that you already know then I would recommend to stay away from this version. Other than Outlook, it really has nothing substantial to offer to make me want to stay with it, only misery, wasted time and headaches.
1 star for the Office Suite Applications (Word, Excel, Access) , 5 stars for Outlook 2007

Microsoft Visio Standard 2007 Review

Good for drawing flowcharts for software. The standard version has the templates used for firmware. Able to export to Visio 2002. 1 month trial can be downloaded from Microsoft. Not as easy to use as Smart Draw, but Visio does not have problems staying on grid and will go full screen on large monitors, so I switched. Only program I have that wont print to Adobe Acrobat writer 5.0.

PrintMaster 2011 Platinum SB Review

PrintMaster 2011 Platinum SB
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I pre-ordered this through Broderbund. Somewhat satisfied and dissatisfied with it's predecessor I decided I would take a chance. My evaluation isn't about the software because I won't put the disk in my Mac. Why? I was sent a cheaply created (burned) copy of the program with a homemade adhesive label. I'd expect this from a new software company but Broderbund??? Tacky and potentially damaging to your machine. It's stupid to put disks with adhesive labels in your computers and cd players.
After arguing for 40 minutes and threatening a fraud alert with the BBB they finally agreed to credit me for the disk, shipping and let me keep the disk because they wouldn't pay for return shipping. Will it be the same way with Amazon? I'm not sure. I do know that the supervisor told me there are no boxes for the product even though there is one pictured here AND on Broderbund's site. I'd investigate first unless you're OK with adhesive labels.
***UPDATE**** I had to look at this product. If you look at the software product just before they released this one (PrintMaster Platinum 2.0) you'll see that people didn't have the greatest opinion of it. I gave it a 3. I think they whipped this one out to 'fix' the fatal issues of 2.0. Well, "Back to the drawing board Broderbund!"
***The labels got slightly better. SLIGHTLY. You still have to literally copy and paste your address for every single cell. No Find/Replace. Very time consuming.
***The calendar is basically a graphic. Yes, you choose the year or the month depending on whether you are doing an annual or monthly. However you have no way to type items into a cell/day. With Print Shop you can. An improvement but like the labels, a very SLIGHT improvement.
****EVERYTHING IS ONLINE. People complained about everything being installed and killing your hard drive but now you have to be able to access the Internet if you want to create anything. Yes, this is normal for print software but at least you get some on the disk or installed. But with this one it looks like you need the Internet for everything. Let's put it this way. Everything I tried to find kept needing the Internet. Maybe the clipart is on the disk but the projects don't appear to be. Very sad.

****Tackiness: I'm a teacher and I'm picking about spelling. I'm adding a graphic that shows how poorly they were at Broderbund when it came to looking at things before releasing this 'burned' disk. They spelled 'coming' as 'comming.'
****Going back to labels I'm also including a graphic of a sheet of labels aimed at Halloween. First the design has graphics all over the sheet. Next they have the instructions mixed within the labels themselves. Huh? It's a bunch of gobbledygook.
If you're interested in this product look at 2.0 but I'm still very glad I got my money back. Big, big, big disappointment. It keeps it's 1 because they did a shoddy job 'fixing' up a piece of software that they screwed up in the first place. So not worth $40.00! Back to Print Shop for me and praying I can find a good one for my Mac.*****UPDATE***** I wanted to create business cards/behavior punchcards (yeah, I didn't fully take it off) and the program printed some crazy enlarged business card that had the right side of it printed on the left side and vice-verce. I have NEVER seen a printing program this messed up!!!

Microsoft Office Standard 2007 Review

Microsoft Office Standard 2007
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Microsoft's Office Standard 2007 is the version that includes the programs most people will be looking for in an office suite: Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook. While Microsoft did make some improvements, many changes have users frustrated and mad.
Pros
+ Standard version includes the 4 programs you actually want!
+ Like most new MS suites, allows for easier transfer between machines
+ Allows you to use on your home desktop AND your laptop!! Huge plus!!
+ New open document format based on xml - good for techies
+ Alternatively, you can still use the doc format you know and love
+ Excel now supports larger documents with more fields!
+ Cool new Powerpoint extras
+ Once you do overcome the learning curve, design has some plusse
+ Preloaded with Vista OEM computers, so install is MUCH faster than old version
Cons
- A list price of $400 means many will forgo Outlook and buy Home & Student suite for MUCH LESS
- The ribbon puts things in WEIRD places
- Microsoft disabled classic menus so you can't find stuff ... ARGH!!!
- Startup times seem a little slower ... why????
- Strangely slow performance with Word
The general hatred for the ribbon is well known. Microsoft Word and Excel have drawn the most heat. It took everybody years to learn those nested menus and hard to find functions. Now they are all moved!!!!
Actually, the ribbon wouldn't be so bad if you could have your regular old classic menus above it. Once you learn the ribbon, there's some logic to the way things have been relocated. Still, this was a huge blunder and I wonder if MS will back track on that.
This guy also includes Outlook, which is a MUST for me since I have to use Outlook on my work PC. I tried using the exported files in the new vista calendar apps, and none of them really worked that well. The professional Microsoft Office Professional 2007 FULL VERSION and ultimate Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 FULL VERSION [DVD] suite versions also include outlook.
Yet why the list price of $400? The Home and Student Office 2007 suite Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 is $150 and includes everything here except for Outlook. Is Outlook worth $250 now? To be fair, there are cheaper upgrade versions. Still, I may be switching to a new email / calendar / productivity program all-together.
The new XML doc format is Microsoft's way of getting away from the proprietary .doc format. This will aggravate some people too, but you can just save everything in the 2003 format. I like the new format and I think it will catch on with time.
Despite the short comings, once you get past the learning curve the programs themselves are improved.
Enjoy!!!

Omnioutliner Professional 3.0 Review

Omnioutliner Professional 3.0
Average Reviews:

Any software that tries to be all things to all people will ultimately fail.
Omnioutliner Pro is not that software. It has a very limited scope in terms of what it tries to do. And almost succeeds.
Let me start with the issues that I have with this software. The essential piece that is missing is EXPORT functionality. Sure it will export to various formats. HTML. RTF. Some Limited WORD and EXCEL export capabilities. And a few more. But it doesn't export to the apps formats that most users might need. Calendar. Mail. Not even OmniFocus - from the same company.
BUT as a consultant I still manage to use it on a daily basis and for multiple purposes.
There's the basic list making of course. But I also use it to organize my thoughts when I need to create a presentation, report, a training plan, or a simple meeting plan. The reason that I make such heavy use of this app can be summed up in one phrase - USER FRIENDLY.
This small app with seemingly limited use makes it very easy to get a quick start on most of the tasks that I come up against during my day. I have also found a report and some free templates on [...] that allows me to extend my use of it even further.
Is the THE MUST HAVE APP for your toolbox?
No. But if you have it, you'll probably find yourself turning towards it more often than you thought.

QuickBooks Point of Sale: Basic V7.0 w/Hardware Review

QuickBooks Point of Sale: Basic V7.0 w/Hardware
Average Reviews:

I found that Quickbooks Point of Sale is extremely versitile. I have used the software for both a retail store and a resturaunt. The software worked flawlessly. It was a huge help in helping me realize the state of my business. Having both sales and inventory information in one place helps you to realize key trends and stock your store accordingly.
I have been using Quickbooks Point of Sale since it's begining. Allowing me to see see the evolution of the product as a result. I have learned that Intuit is paying attention to the needs of small business. For example the main enhancement between version 7 and 6 is the incorporation of eccommerce principals, which I feel is an emerging trend for small business. The new changes help bring small business up to speed with larger businesses.
Additionally you will find that Intuit will also offer accessories that work seamlessly with the software. This is a huge benefit that I have yet to find in anyother point of sale program.

Football Manager 2010 Review

Football Manager 2010
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wasn't able to use the download options on SI's website, as I was deployed to Iraq at the time, so Amazon's option to get a hard copy was vital. I got the game (in Iraq!) only a few days after it was released.
If you haven't played since before 2008 or 2007, you certainly need to pick up 2010. The version is a great leap forward. Visually, it's a lot like 2009. The game play continues to give you more power, but in a way that's easier to understand. One of the options I particularly enjoy is where, instead of moving sliders, you assign a player a "type" of position, based on where he is on the field. This will determine how he plays that position. Instead of just a Striker, you can have a Deep-Lying Forward, Poacher, Target Man, etc. It's (in my mind, at least) a more intuitive way of doing business.
I'm hopelessly addicted to FM2010.

Abbyy USA ScanTo Office Review

Abbyy USA ScanTo Office
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'd recommend this software to anyone.
It is very, very easy to use, with a wizard-like interface that takes you through the steps very quickly. Scan directly, or open a file previously scanned, indicate an output file or it can open a new MS Word file. Its only outputs seem to be MS Word or MS Excel. Inputs all major scanned-image formats e.g. jpeg, gif, etc. (This review shouldn't be your source for tech details such as that.)
If the text is scanned at too low a resolution, for example 30 dots per inch scans of small text, then you simply won't be able to convert it to text, no matter what -- there simply isn't enough detail in the scan. But for 10-point text, scanned at 100 dots per inch or more, I've found the software to do an excellent job. (Mostly, I scan things at 300 or 600 dpi, and I have seen almost no typos at all.)
The software works fast enough that I can't imagine anyone complaining about the speed. I'd have no hesitation at scanning and converting an entire book. If you wish, you can open multiple scanned pages at once, and it will convert them to a single multi-page document with each page corresponding to one scanned input page.
It is possible to let the text highlight in red anything it wasn't 100% certain about; an excellent feature. For 300 dpi scans of 10 point text, I simply have not found any typos at all, and very rarely will I see anything red. In other words, it's extremely reliable.
I've scanned new and old books; books with fancy old-style drawings in them; books with very strange text formats, and the software does a very good job of it. I find it amazing, and impressive, that the book will create an MS Word document that looks almost exactly like the scanned page; for example, columns and their positions, the positions of photos, etc. The software will cut photos out of the scan and imbed them into the resulting page, so that you truly get a document that could pass for the original scan! (In fact, sometimes it does odd things, like if it finds text within the picture, it will chop up the picture and include converted text right smack in the middle of the picture... a bit odd, but technically quite correct.) Note, that from column to column the precisely placement of each word in the column might be slightly different, but the overall size of the column will be done right.
One POTENTIAL problem is with words that are hyphenated across column boundaries -- this software can retain those hyphens / word splits, so if you then grab the text and re-format it, you'll have to delete the hyphens. But this is easily remedied -- if you choose the advanced feature that says not to retain formatting, it will put those hyphenated words back together! How smart is that!
The software seems to have no problem converting several different font styles and sizes on the same page, even some fonts like western broadside fonts that I imagine would have been too unusual to analyze.
The software clearly corrects for scans that are not truly orthogonal. That is, if the page is crooked in the scan, it will still read it correctly. I've tried giving it pages that were upside down, at right angles, at 45 degree angles, at a 5 degree angle, and it correctly scanned each and re-oriented it properly.
The only problem I ever encountered in scans were lines that had lots and lots of dashes in them, which occured in a 100-year old text that included lines like: "water ---- wet; land ---- dry; fire ---- hot" etc etc. for several paragraphs. The software got confused, and dropped a few words.
In summary, I am absolutely confident that this software will work well for you, and that you'll be quite pleased; will be easy to work, easy to use. I'm decidedly pleased I purchased it.

I have used ACT! and Qbooks for years. I needed an upgrade to ACT! but received very poor reviews for ACT! 6.0. Intuit always gives a quality product so I bought This Customer Manager.
The advertising makes it sound so powerful but I cannot find much to do with it. It is like Intuit sold a shell they were developing to recapture development costs.

ScanSoft PaperPort 10 Review

ScanSoft PaperPort 10
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my first Amazon review. I have been using Amazon since the dawn of time (1997) and this is the only product to move me so much as to break my silence and warn others.
This product is practically non-functional. I have used PaperPort 9 for 2 1/2 years and happily so. I thought 10 would be much better, but it must have been a re-write, because it's very different.
Granted, none of this is a measurable problem just opinion, so here are my measurables:
- Where it once was instantaneous to double-click on a thumbnail to view a document, it now takes 5 to 10 seconds.
- Where once i could move a document between folders instantly, it now takes the same 5 to 10 seconds.
- With Paperport 9, my scanner could run at top speed without stopping. With 10, my scanner overwhelms the app and causes it to crash if i let it run full out.
Paperport is/was a great product, but version 10 is a complete waste. Please purchase version 9 and you'll be glad you did.
Oh, and if you have problems with Paperport -- Scansoft charges you to talk to them about it. All technical support is on a pay-as-you-go basis, no freebies. There are google/yahoo support groups, but they offer little help.
Buyer Beware

I tried this software and it is the best parental software I have ever used. It is easy to setup and makes monitoring my children's computer use stress free. I feel confident that the software restrictions protect my children from accessing dangerous websites and inappropriate content. One of the best features is that it also allows me to set limits on when my children can use the computer and for how long. I no longer have to contend with my children arguing over whose turn it is on the computer. Kidswatch is a parent's answer to a child's computer use.

Omnifocus Review

Omnifocus
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been using and relying on Omnifocus for the Mac for about a year. I agree with other reviews here and elsewhere that the conceptual framework of the product is very strong in its support of GTD. This is especially true if you have a lot of tasks, or a lot of irons in the fire, or simply a good imagination.
However, the usability of the product has consistently fallen short of my expectations and needs for the entire time. Just as I systematize an approach (use this view, do this on this schedule) for managing tasks, I find some annoying and confusing roadblock. They are everywhere. They don't prevent me from managing my tasks and they don't lose any data, but they constantly divert me from work into work-arounds.
For example, let's look at entering new tasks. I use the Quick Entry window, which I really appreciate for dumping new tasks from anywhere on my Mac when I think of them. If you don't enter a project and context, the item goes into your Inbox, as it should. So from time to time one cleans up the Inbox. If you have a simple project structure with no outline groups, you can just do this in the Inbox window using pulldowns. But if you use outline groups (and they are very useful), you have to open another window to show the projects so you can pinpoint the project's outline group you want to use.
The Inbox menu item is only available when there is a window open. So if you don't have any windows open you can't see the Inbox. There is a built-in Inbox perspective that you cannot delete but you can reformat. But it is not involved in any way when you click on the Inbox menu item.
The Inbox folder icon in the project folder list conveniently shows the number of items remaining, just as the No Context item shows them because they usually have no context. But clicking on the No Context folder doesn't show all the items having no context (and causing the number to appear) because the typical context filter you use during work doesn't show the offenders. In fact, no matter how you fool with the filters, it's hard to find the offenders for the No Context view.
To summarize, you may think I'm just complaining about some features I would have if I were king. Quite the contrary... just dropping items into the Inbox and clearing the Inbox out is not nearly as seamless as you would expect. And the same is true for numerous other routine tasks. In using the product it seems to me as if a lot of great ideas were collected into the program without spending enough effort integrating them to be sure they were usable day-to-day by real people.
I continue to use the product because there is no real alternative on the Mac to-date. However I remain frustrated because Omnifocus diverts so much of my attention away from the tasks I need to do. Maybe it's just because I have such high hopes based on how it looks and seems to operate. Before you commit yourself to purchasing and using it I suggest you take a serious look at what you expect to do with it all day, and decide if maybe another one of the alternative would work better. I think its power has exceeded the elegance of its user interface.

Casino Inc. Review

Casino Inc.
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Casino Inc is a sim/tycoon/micromangement game where, as you guessed, you get to make and control casinos. There are other games that have been down this road before; specifically Casino Mogul comes to mind. Casino Inc is set up in a "the Sims" type environment, with lots of attractions, gambling tables, employees etc to set up. Dance stages, bowling alleys, restaurants, cooks, floormen, cheats, troublemakers, and dance floors just to name some. A few more personalized touches, such as wallpaper, carpeting, paintings etc. would have been nice as often times the casinos you own just seem to blend into each other.
There is also a map screen that allows you to move around the city, go inside other businesses etc. A similar map is used to see what advertisements are available and buildings for sale. Your staff screen is simple enough, but you seem to spend way too much time there as someone is always clamouring to get more. Of course this depends on factors such as atmosphere, if the police are called, fires, murders etc. If you try to fire someone instead of giving them a raise, be prepared for the rest of the staff to get a bit unhappy (depending on how many staff the employee interacted with). I found these additions realistic, but others might find them irritating. I also wish it would say which staff are in which casino on which floor. It's a bit confusing finding them sometimes. This depicts a problem that seems to plague other aspects of Casino Inc - the sometimes clumsy interface. The learning curve is a bit harder than most tycoons, but that's partially due to the fact that there's so much to do. I personally prefer games where I often have something to micromanage, while I've read reviews that criticize this extremely. They wanted to be able to sit back and watch the casino make money. Well if you manage it well enough, eventually you do have some breaks. I normally speeded up the game then to get something else to do ;)
There are 3 scenarios - very very long ones. While it is true there is no sandbox mode in the game, if you go to their website and DOWNLOAD THE PATCH it adds, amongst other things, a sandbox mode once you've completed all the scenarios.
The graphics are cheerful enough, although a little more differentiation might have been nice. At least the visitors come in a wide variety of shapes, types, sizes, colors, and sexes. Whenever a convention happens, you get to see some funny costumes as well ;) (Sci fi, fetish)
The sound ... well don't have much to say about it. The voices got irritating early on so I turned it way down. The music is ok enough, but not good enough that I didn't start winamp after awhile of playing.
Overall Casino Inc has been criticized for having a clumsy interface and for demanding much more micromanagement than the available menus and submenus can make manageable. I say it depends on what you like. I personally found this game very enjoyable, as I like games like Restaurant Empire, The Sims, Ghost Master, and Rock Manager. I praise micromanagement and beg for more. If you're the same, you will probably dig this game as well.
GRAPHICS: 8 - nothing fancy, but cute enough
SOUND: 5 - nothing special
GAMEPLAY: 7 - not for your casual tycoon player. Takes a bit of time to learn. But if you like a lot of micromanagement it can be quite fun. There should have been a bit more of finesse in the menu system though.
PLAY VALUE: 7 - the scenarios are very long, and if you install the patch you will get a sandbox mode at the end. But the little flaws might get repetitive and irritating after awhile.
8 - lot's of cute features, and I felt pretty good playing it
OVERALL: 7 - 3.5 star on Amazon scale, but Im gonna give this game a tilt and push it up to 4 stars, since I find it worthy of that.

NHL Eastside Hockey Manager Review

NHL Eastside Hockey Manager

For years now, I have been playing graphics based Hockey games from Sega, ESPN, and EA Sports. Frankly, I'm bored with controlling the skaters and playing an actual hockey game. So, I spent more and more time managing the team: re-signing players, signing free-agents, drafting, trading, etc.
If you're in the same boat, you should try out EHM 2005. The General Manager functions are 10-times better than those other games. Developing your team is much more challenging with this simulation software. You have to manage not only your player roster, but your team personnel like the Assistant GM, Head Coach, Ast. Coach(es), Scouts, and Trainers.
It is extremely addictive though. In the game, I chose not to coach each game and will leave that up to the Head Coach. A typical season takes about 10 hours to manage from Draft to the Stanley Cup.
Players skills or their "reputation" gets better or worse based on how much they play, etc. Your players in the minors don't just get better either. They get better based on playtime, etc as well.
All-in-all, a completely awesome game. I just have to find some time to sleep after my daughter goes to bed and before work the next day...

The Bank Account Manager Review

The Bank Account Manager

This software program is the easiest of any similar software I have ever used. It even helps me manage my debit card account. I have all my kids savings accounts in this program and that is nice that it will manage multiple accounts. It is in a tabular format. I select the account and then the tab and do my quick inputting. So easy to understand and use. I highly recommend it to any one who wants to manage their bank accounts and know a current accurate balance of each account. It does all the math and reconciling the checking account is as simple as checking off the checks that have cleared the bank per my end of the month statement.
