DO NOT BUY KING KONG OR ANY OF THE FOLLOWING GAMES (provided by Glop.org)
A lot of PC gamers have joined together, and decided not to purchase any PC games that use the Starforce copy protection method.
I will provide a list of games that install the Starforce device drivers, as well as a list of publishers that incorporate Starforce.
What is Starforce?
Starforce is a software copy protection tool installed by PC game publishers, which is designed to prevent the casual copying of retail CDROM applications. It installs as a hidden device driver, without the end-user's knowledge or consent.
Why are we boycotting it?
Starforce has received criticism for installing its own device driver onto computers. The Starforce drivers are often linked to system instability and computer crashes.
For example, here's one of the common problems brought by Starforce: under Windows XP, if packets are lost during the reading or writing of a disk, XP interprets this as an error and steps the IDE speed down. Eventually it will revert to 16bit compatibility mode rendering a CD/DVD writer virtually unusable. In some circumstances certain drives cannot cope with this mode and it results in physical hardware failure
Update: It has been reported by many users that the slowdown caused by StarForce on some recent multiformat DVD writers can cause irreversible hardware failures on those drives (they aren't recognized anymore), as they aren't supposed to write at slow speeds.
Moreover, the Starforce drivers, installed on your system, grant ring 0 (system level) privileges to any code under the ring 3 (user level) privileges. Thus, any virus or trojan can get OS privileges and totally control your system. Since Windows 2000, the Windows line security and stability got enhanced by separating those privileges, but with the Starforce drivers, the old system holes and instabilities are back and any program (or virus) can reach the core of your system by using the Starforce drivers as a backdoor.
Is my system concerned?
Starforce installs itself as an hidden IDE driver, during teh installation of a game, without letting the user know about it. It's not displayed in the add/remove program.

I purchased this program looking for elegant fonts to use in my wedding invitations. Boy was I wrong! All of the fonts are the same ones you find in microsoft word 2007. On the bottom of the box in small font it states that the fonts on the box are used for illustration purposes only and may not be included in the program. I found this program to be very misleading. Don't waste your money like I did!

MindJet MindManager 7 Mac Single License Review

MindJet MindManager 7 Mac Single License
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
So far, in my search for a sophisticated information organizer this is the best I have found.
I handle lots of information of many types. I want a quick and visual way for organizing this information into various categories. I want an ability to redefine the relationships of information easily (metaphorically: moving information within an outline). I want to link this information to personal documents and to web resources (hyperlinks). I want to process this collage of information visually (because of its ability to handle larger numbers of relationships than standard text flow). I want to have an ability to secure this information (encrypt the file). And so forth.
I've tried many ways to manage my mountain of information. A word processor outline works but visually there is an inadequate wayt to show relationships. A flatfile database works, but it is even more limited with relationships. A relational database works, but it is cumbersome to manage.
MindManager does most of what I want. Its graphical boxes can state the topics. And, these are easily re-organized if the hierarchical relationships need to be changed. It's notes window allows explanation, commentary, or other related verbiage. It allows attaching to a topic both a file and a hyperlink (and by using subtopics you can attach as many of these as you want).
MindManager has "bells and whistles" including various ways to color topics and attach flags of various kinds to them.
One of the key benefits of MindManager in comparison to its other competitors is an abilty to encrypt files. This data is, after all, your "mind's eye". If you are creative you may not want this data visable to all.
One of the features I like very well is an easy way to drag-and-drop links from the web into MindManager. When visiting a desirable web page you can click-and-drag the icon from the left of the URL window and then switch into MindManager and drop the link onto a subject. If you drop the link while the subject appears highlighted in green then the link drops into that subject itself. If, the highlighted subject is red then the link drops as a "child" subject. This is an excellent program for keeping track of myriad web pages you like but might never again happen upon.
Okay, so what DOESN'T MindManager do? In my view of a best product, the data view would automatically "focus" on the topic at hand (visually making this bigger while making "parent" and "child" topics smaller - just the way your brain handles information). MindManager doesn't do this. It has some attempts at this via some menu choices but suffice it to say they don't work very well. They don't, for example, automatically keep the current topic centered in the screen and magnified to a pre-chosen comfortable level. (This would be an excellent addition for teaching purposes.) This "focus" should be a fluid and automatic process (turned "on" or "off" at your will). There is another product, PersonalBrain (by TheBrain Technologies) which does this superbly well - however, it has no way to encrypt its files - a critical and "fatal" flaw in my view.
MindManager also does not have any well-implemented presentation mode. I teach. I want to present concepts and then "drill down" into them. I want a visual interface which both focuses on the topic at hand and additionally - in a side window - shows where the current topic is in relationship to the overall. MindManager doesn't do this. (PersonalBrain comes closer but still has some limits.)
MindManager does not allow (easily) defining multiple links between subjects. Ideally an information manager would allow you to define different types of link structures for the information. For example, if you are talking about information as it applies to one personal project then certain linkages would appear, versus another project where information might be linked differently. (PersonalBrain does allow multiple links between topics).
Overall, my "bottom line" is that I do use MindManager as my main information manager. I have numerous files. And, I use a "master" file which has links to all of the other MindManager files. For the most part, MindManager does what I need it to do. The inability to visually focus well and easily is my main "gripe".
John B

Thinkfree Office for Mac OS X Review

Thinkfree Office for Mac OS X
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
ThinkFree Office v2.2 for OS X is a very reasonable alternative to M$ Office. There is one bug that emerged with the OS X 10.2.6 update - when opening ThinkFree write, it creates a odd tiny window 1-2 pixels wide. I've found some workarounds that allow the app to function, though; and the e-mail support was excellent.
As others have noted, there are some compatibility issues when importing M$ documents. These can be anywhere from minimal to irritating. The main problem that I've seen relates to the placement of graphics. Calc, the spreadsheet, seems to be the most compatible. I do not use the presentation product, preferring Apple's Keynote instead.
Written in Java, I had some concerns about speed. Running ThinkFree v2.2 on a Mac 9500 with a 400 MHz G4 card and a 9600 with a 500 MHz G4 card was slow. Typing frequently outpaced the character display. On the other hand, running it on my 1.25 GHz G4 DP MDD showed no adverse speed issues.
The bottom line is that this suite works. Among the alternatives to M$ office for OS X, it is probably the best. The other wold be OpenOffice, which is improving, but you have to fuss with an X-window environment and though they state that anti-aliasing of fonts should work in the latest version, I could never get it to work.
It is relatively inexpensive and from my perspective worth a try. I currently use it daily as my productivity suite.

AAA Map N' Go 7.0 Review

AAA Map N' Go 7.0
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just bought, installed, and used this product to lay out a long trip. This software quickly plotted the trip which would be over roads ranging from interstates to secondary roads. It has a very large points of interest database and produced an extensive report (maps of various scales and lists of points of interest) and features (personalization options, integration with GPS).
After about 5 hours of use, I found the product was not acceptable for my purposes and returned it. Some problems were:
1. When I tried to constrain portions of routes from interstate to secondary roads, the program would either show both routes or show the secondary route with a return to the secondary route start on the interstate. (Same behaviour if the road was a state vice interstate route.) Although an annoyance, this behaviour effectively added duplicate miles to the route total milage.
2. When points of interest are added, a bulk add to map feature is available. No delete from map is available. In one case I had added 208 points to the map, only to find that they all appeared in the final printout report. In order to remove the points, each had to be deleted individually - a large chore. In addition, some information apperared in the printout report of no value to me. I could find no way to delete this other data.
3. Documentation is marginal at best. Workarounds for the problems may have existed, but I could not find them in the documentation.
4. I am a AAA member so expected to see all AAA points of interest and accomodations. The information, when compared to AAA books, was incomplete.
5. The internet download features (road conditions) produced error messages but some data appeared.
The above shortfalls may not be important to all - but evaluate this mapping product carefully before committing to extensive planning.

Double Elimination Wrestling Tournament for Windows Review

Double Elimination Wrestling Tournament for Windows
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Shipping and communication was great. The actual program was a little odd to use compared to others I've used in the past. The primary things that made it difficult was printing bout sheets and updated brackets. Each weight class bracket must be printed individually instead of being able to print an entire set of all weight classes at once. Also, the numbering of bouts was odd as each weight classes was numbered separately instead of the numbers running through all of the weight classes. This meant that an entire round for all weight classes cannot be printed all at once. Instead you must open up each weight class individually and print the round for that weight class only and then do this again for each weight class (14 for the tounament we ran). The other thing that needs improvement is the bye matches are not automatically "scored." Instead you must manually award a win to the wrestler with a bye instead of it being automatically awarded.

RignRoll Review

RignRoll
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After many years in development and missed release dates, Rig n Roll was finally released. With a passing interest in truck driving, tycoon genre, and/or simulation, 18 Wheels of Steel fans (who might be disappointed with the way Extreme Trucking direction went and for those looking for something more than American Long Haul) may see this as a challenge to the truck driving sims namely the 18 Wheels of Steel franchise. It's a different take on a business sim/trucking game. I was a fan of all the 18 Wheels of Steels games with the exception of Extreme truckers ( because of its new direction which I didn't like) and Big City Rigs which was just god-awful!
Rig n Roll was billed as a truck driving sim tycoon game taking place only in the state of California with one city in Nevada. You are a truck driver for a company that you own. You choose what to haul as there are different types of goods ranging from fruit to cars. You start off with a basic rig that you can upgrade. At your company, you can also tradein your truck for a much better one. For the most part, all of this takes place in California. On a side note, it looks like Las Vegas (in Nevada) might be added in the Fall as some billboards on the freeways are hinting. The Rignroll, website still hasn't been updated since the game was released. This drives me insane as I would like to know if there are any updates and possible add-ons. You have to dig to find out that Las Vegas is in the works but no release date has been set. The graphics look very nice. The billboards look nice and realistic as do the roads also. You even have to play a toll at the Bay Bridge and Golden Gate Bridge; nice touch! I think I read when this game was in development, the game designers/developers went to California and mapped out the roads and drew the scenery. The developers of Wildlife Park 2 did the same thing (obviously at a zoo instead). Very nice! There is an interesting storyline in RignRoll with some interesting twists and turns. I won't divulge on it because I don't want to spoil it!
The graphics are very nice. I would say, better than the 18 WoS franchise. The streets, freeways, interstates look good. The map is not a good tool as it's not helpful (not useless, just not helpful. In 18 WoS; the map was terrific. In RnR, I found myself on dead ends which the map never hinted to. The same issue in 18 WoS Haulin and American Long Haul persists in Rig n Roll; empty cities with no people. There is a glaring omission in RnR. I cannot understand, comprehend, or understand why! WHERE ARE THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS? A game with nice graphics and designers who drive around California to map out the land, you would expect the traffic lights (as well as different types/shapes). I couldn't believe it. This makes for interesting intersections. No stop signs either. The rigs are nice and lifelike. A nice touch is when you go to a gas station (press enter when there) you get out of your rig and pump (as well as use a slider to either fill it up or as much as you want). The downside is that you have no control of your character, it's automatic. You can customize your rig (paint, engine, brakes, wheels, etc. The only place to accept a job is in the warehouse. Your company must have a contract with the warehouse you are at, or else you can't start a job such as hauling a harvester, rocket fuel etc. Some jobs involves you being in a race to a designated city (warehouse). Usually it's against 4 other rigs (the AI). When you reach the border (fence) of a warehouses, it is automated (very disappointing to see). You watch the rig (with or without cargo) automatically be driven into the warehouse and a crane automatically unhooks your load. Why can't I drive in the warehouse, perhaps get out, and use a crane to unhook my load? When you pick your job, the load is automatically placed on your rig and you are automatically driven out. You have to be careful, because when you reach the boundary of the warehouse you are on your own and sometimes if you aren't paying attention you could quickly crash. By the way, if you crash, there are nice visuals of your rig taking damage. Your rig looks hurt! Also, why in the world is there a key for, unhooking or hooking your load? You don't even get to attach (or detach) it to your rig. If you crash and your trailer falls off, that's one reason. Also, from time to time, you might get a phone call asking you to pick up a trailer. On your jobs screen, it does tell you how to get to your destination.
The traffic is nice. Strange that California is known for it's traffic, yet it seems very quiet in the game, no matter what time of the day that it is. To get the true California traffic, you need to move the traffic slider all the way right (yes there is a slider for traffic in the menu. The day/night timing is a nice touch. The police are weird. If you commit a infraction, it seems like the police always try to run you off the road, however, if you slow down, you get pulled over and arrested....almost always. I did drive on the wrong side of the road not knowing a police cruiser was behind me and I was ticketed. So that's good, not everytime is an arrest :) Driving is more real in RnR than the 18 WoS series. But, at least in the 18 WoS series, you back up at your destination and unload your cargo. In RnR, you either go to a designated spot (along the road) and unhook the trailer (while going (under 10mph) or reach the warehouse where you rwach the warehouse border and it's completely automated.
All and all, this is game is about 2.7 stars. You wonder with it in development for so long, you think, "this is it?" If this game improves, I would change this rating (simply by erasing this review and redoing it. As of right now, the best thing to do is to try the demo first. There is no life in the cities and when you reach your destination, it's pretty much automated; everything is almost automated. It is a nice touch to be able to get out of your truck and go into a diner, pump gas, fix your truck, and go to a motel. The only problem is that all of this is automated. you have no control (you have the option to fill as much gas as you need in your rig; it's a slider). The truck stops are nice but they are devoid of any action/people/other trucks in real time. At the truckstop, you can go into the diner and find work in the newspaper. When you play this game, you'll feel like this could of been a hit but it is a miss. Maybe in the future, if this game is supported, it could be a hit. Right now, it's got a lot of options to grow on and hopefully, it's supported. If you love truck sims, try the demo first. It might seem terrible at first, then it grows on you. I'm very close to erasing this review and upping the rating to about 3 stars although, as I said before, it's not quite there. If it's true, Las Vegas will be added, I will see how that goes as well as if anything else is added, ie. fixes, updates etc.
+ Scenery is very nice (better than 18 WoS)
+Truck interior and animations are nice
+Truck interior view is very nice/more accurate
+Cities dont all look the same
+Traffic is more realistic during the times of the day
+The AI won't crash into you, you have to be aware
+The police will pull you over if you commit a infraction if they are driving behind you. The police aren't static, they drive around.
+Good amount of cargo to haul
+Story mode is interesting
+Tutorial is nice
+Dolby Surround sound is nice
+ Guess what? When you drive up to a toll booth; you have to pay!
+The Truck Stops look very nice
+Good amount of options when upgrading your truck
+The radio is a nice touch; music actually isn't bad. I was tired of hearing," Anyone got the 10-13??" (from 18 WoS)
+ How fellow employees, businesses contact you and the talking business is a nice touch
+ The animation when filling your tank, going to the motel, getting something to eat, fixing/upgrading your truck is nice as is the animation of how your truck looks if you get into a crash
+ steering is more realistic
+shifting/use of clutch/going in reverse is more realistic
+ The truck stops are nice
+ Besides going to the warehouse, you can go to a truckstop and get out of your truck to go into a bar/diner to find jobs in the newspaper.
- I've been to several cities and I have seen absolutely no traffic signals. California with no traffic signals???? Very careless.
-The cities are void of people.
- Reaching your destination, at the warehouse is automated. You don't back your rig to the loading/unloading zone. When you reach the border of the warehouse, you are automatically taken in, point and click what you want to haul, and the trailer is automatically attacked to your rig.
-sometimes when your task sends you to a specific location (not the warehouse), the directions are very vague. Sometimes you have to pick up the trailer on the side of a freeway but you will not know specifically where until it pops up on the right side of your screen.
- Would be nice if you can actually drop off goods and pick up goods at the seaport and airport.
-Realism- No speed limit signs on the freeway
- The journal, info screen is not very helpful
- Would be nice to be able to control your character: pumping fuel, washing your rig, sleeping in a motel, talking to other truckers at a diner/restaurant, unloading/loading trailers in the warehouse or pickup point.
- Sometimes you can get arrested for what seems to be minor infractions

Gary Grigsby's World At War Review

Gary Grigsby's World At War
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
You basically cannot go wrong with a Gary Grisby game, but I want to quickly assure those of you who shy away from his "monster" games, like War in the Pacific, that World at War was not designed only for the die hard wargaming grog....World at War will appeal to all gamers for its' relatively ease of play and respect for the historical period. Once you navigate the slightly steep learning curve, you will quickly become comfortable with the gameplay, and realize that many of the rules are intuitive.
One of the problems with buying many games is that after playing around with them for a week or two, you find it sitting on your hard drive, unplayed, to the point that WINDOWS tells you that you have unused desktop icons which can be deleted. This will not be the case with Gary Grisby's World at War. The replayability of this game is very high for the following reasons:
1. You have 5 different sides you can play v. the AI. You can play either Germany, Japan, Russia, The Western Allies, or China. Feeling adventurous? Then play more than one country such as Germany and Japan and see if your strategy for both nations can change the course of history. Want to learn the game mechanics better before playing the Western Allies? Then control China and see if you can withstand the Japanese invasion.
2.The game has 5 default difficulty settings. Winning as the Western Allies at the normal setting? Then crank it up a notch and see the strategies you employed previously crumble to dust as the AI is not only tougher during combat, but new strategies conducted by the AI are opened up as well.
3. Customizing the game is easy to do which will once again increase the difficulty. Just one example: you can increase your enemies supplies and transport abilities or conversely, deny your AI allied partners the same...either way, an entirely new game will result from these changes....these are only 2 of many adjustments you can make to increase your enjoyment when playing World at War.
4. The game supports PBEM play which will result in countless hours/days/months of play with your friends.
World at War is a turn based game, not real time, thus allowing you to pace the turns at your comfort level. The manufacturing and research aspects of the game are handled very cleanly and will not boggle you mind what to do next. The combat system is easy to comprehend and you will quickly understand why a particular attack of yours fell apart. The supply system of the game can be set at no supplies (recommended for beginners and the first game only), standard (where supplies you build for your forces are simply drawn from a common supply pool) or advanced (where you are responsible to create supply chains and physically have supplies present with your forces). These various supply rules illustrates the depth of the game. Finally, you can complete a game in one 4 to 6 hour gaming session.
Gary Grisby's World at War is a breath of fresh air in the stale world of WWII strategy games. Enthusiastically recommended!

Corel Painter 11 Review

Corel Painter 11
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just an Update for the review:
As of January 6, 2010 - nearly a YEAR after release, Corel has released a major patch update that resolves most problems I've had with the product. I have left the review alone (besides adding updates) to show how long it takes for these things to be resolved. I still stand by the fact Painter needs to resolve GUI issues, by appearance and stability.
** A special note, is that I wish Painter would include a dynamic resizable navigational/preview window like other paint programs have. There have been suggested work-arounds but I think it's time for Corel to include a much wanted feature.
As of August 26,2009 - I included a bug that still hasn't been fixed and is disruptive for workflow
As of May 21, 2009 - Corel has released a hotfix for the intuos3 missing stroke, corrupted workspaces, and cut and paste issue. The rest of the bugs still seem to remains.
I actually have been familiar with Painter since the old school large serial tablets and it was called Fractal Design Painter.
I really really wanted to love Painter 11. It has some nice new features such as the hard/real media brushes, and re-sizable Mixer and Color wheel. There is now PNG support too, but until there is a patch, it's not worth the upgrade or purchase. It feels like this should have been partial (but not a good update to) Painter X. The last time it took it to patch was when Painter X encountered GUI glitches on release (in Feb of that year) but it wasn't until June were there fixes. It didn't receive any patches after that and we (as in other people interested in the program) were waiting for the new release to see if it would fix previous problems.
Here's a list of major problems:
** (August 26 2009) Updating a bug issue I didn't put up here. This affects about anyone with a tablet and most likely wacoms. When you chose a brush, you have it at a certain size, for example 2.0, now use the eraser side of your stylus, change the size of your eraser. Flip back your stylus. Your 2.0 size has now increased to 17. I'm told that it doesn't have to happen when changing the brush size, but it happens when you use your eraser side of your stylus.
1. It's slow. It loads fast for a few days but for whatever reason it becomes increasingly slower to load. I'm using a Core Duo with 2gb of ram and even with nothing on (as in other programs running) it's still slow. (I'm a PC user)
2. a: Intuos 3 users will be frustrated. Apparently, there is a bug in this version of Painter. It causes a missing stroke or a random brush dab (the dab issue was present in X). Yes, that's right a painting program that can't register whether or not you're placing a stroke on your tablet. Let's see if this improves with an Intuos4. I feel sorry for intuos3 users right now (and I am one!)
b: Intuos 4 users may find themselves frustrated. I've tested the software in Windows XP sp3 with an Intuos4. The touchring can be downright unresponsive when trying to change brush sizes.
3. Bugs from X are still in here. Watch out for crashes when using guides and rulers. I already mentioned the missing brush dab problem. If you change your brush selector bars to stroke view, it changes them to thumbnail view when you go back to it. Sometimes trying to fix it back to stroke view causes it to crash.
4. CPU bug. For whatever reason, Painter likes to eat about 45% of your CPU or more even when you're idle and not drawing. I don't know why it's consuming so much CPU on idle times (as in I'm not even painting!). I'm told because I'm using multiple cores it may actually be closer to 100% if I had a single core processor.
5. Color Management. It also appears that painter is assigning incorrect color management to documents from the one you specified. This means you're blacks may not look 100% black because of this issue. There's even a bug for Mac users with color management.
6. Copy and Paste bug. Some reason Painter 11 is having issues copying and pasting selections into a new layer. This is really a problem for example if I wanted instead of lifting inks to a Watercolor layer...to copy and paste it into a new layer and setting it to gel.
7. The new Transformation tool...yep that's buggy too. It crops out certain areas, and sometimes doesn't transform selections correctly. What's the point of this tool if it doesn't work properly?
8. Ugly GUI - General User Interface. While the softened colors are better, the rest of the interface is just back to windows 2000. Nothing intuitive about the placement of tools on the tools palette, too many confusing palettes that need to be stored in an intuitive manner for many users, and interface bugs.
9. This maybe should be the number one issue for Corel. Really poor customer service. If you pay for the full edition, people have been told over the phone to go to their PanterFactory forums instead of getting real customer support. That can be absolutely frustrating for someone who just called their center expecting some support with their software package. In addition, the support level on their forums is abysmal. I'm not expecting Corel to be Adobe, but I feel like I'm on a sinking ship with the level of support.
I'm told they're already working on a Painter 12 and really....they should be working on revamping their product. I feel like more of this program is dedicated to photopainting, and the illustrators are feeling more and more ignored unless they help push the product. I really love painter for the natural brush emulation but the support and bugs leaves me bittersweet.
** - Edit I'm also trying to figure out why another person directed a counterpoint to my review about saying the Tilt function was faulty in Painter when this was never once mentioned in my review? I said there was a missing stroke bug, which is a completely different issue with the intuos 3. Reading comprehension...? (I kind of believe that to be a must in a good review before arguing something I never something I never said).

Pen--choose to create fine pen strokes, or thick strokes and ink deposits, by changing the velocity of your stroke. The faster you go, the thinner the line; the slower you go, the thicker the line
Pencil & Chalk--control shading by changing the angle of your stylus on the drawing tablet. Choose whether to draw with the tip or shade with the side of the nib-just like in real life

Enhanced--Selection Tools A new Polygonal mode for the Lasso tool, plus overall improvements to marquee tools and the Magic Wand, let you make more nimble selections the first time around.

Enhanced--Mixer Palette & Swatches Extra mixer swatches appear when you enlarge the newly resizable Mixer Palette. Increase the size of the Palette to put more colors at your disposal and have a clearer view of your chosen color. Underpainting Palette This palette includes color schemes based on various artistic styles, such as Impressionist, Classical, Modern, Watercolor, Sketchbook and Chalk Drawing, so you can create art like your favorite muses. You can also match your Underpainting Palette to that of any open image for consistency.
Match Palette Effect Match the color and intensity between 2 images. Just open an image that features your desired color scheme and use the Match Palette effect to bring that color to the image you want to change.

UFO Aftershock - Altar Interactive Review

UFO Aftershock - Altar Interactive
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Even though Aftershock was created in the X-com vein, it's not an X-com game and as thus, should not be compared to X-com.
Instead of talking about what was good, I'll just discuss the bad things which is a much smaller list.
The game introduces resource management, which can be really difficult. I would strongly recommend going to www.strategycore.co.uk and reading the resource management FAQ. Read all the Aftershock FAQs as well, to enhance game enjoyment.
The game is actually too long. Near the end, I pretty much stopped using strategy and just swept the mission area, killing and healing as I went. :)
Sure, there are bugs. Nothing is perfect. There are also workarounds. I finished the game long ago so I do not remember what the latest patch number is. Again, those FAQs and reading the strategycore forums will help you alot.

Quicken 2004 Deluxe Review

Quicken 2004 Deluxe
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been using Quicken for 13 years. Although I was unhappy with the Quicken 2003 (to which I had upgraded from Quicken 2000) largely because of the crowding of the register to the point where it could not be read easily at least THAT version functioned. The new Quicken 2004 upgrade is FULL OF BUGS. Hidden accounts randomly reappear and there is no way to get rid of them. Popups advertising Intuit products interrupt one's work constantly and cannot be removed. The stock market quotes' download does not function at all. Intuit's technical support has been moved to India and Intuit has failed to inform and train that staff about the bugs. They have not issued patches or revised software. [They're still "working on it", three months after discovery of the bugs in August.] I lost 13 years of data in five separate databases and despite three backups, could not retrieve it because the backups were corrupted by the new buggy software. Intuit's President's office at Intuit has been nasty and unsympathetic. The best advice I have is: DON'T buy this product at this time. It's very dangerous to your database(s).

SIMPLY MONEY V2.1 Review

SIMPLY MONEY V2.1
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First I'll vent. What I received is not Simply Money 2.1, it is version 2.0b repackaged, which I have already had for several years. Further the publisher identified is not Victory Multimedia but Simply Media according to the packaging. The simplymedia.com web site indicated on the case doesn't appear to even exist. I have not tested the fax # stamped on the CD.
I have used Simply Money for 8 years and am generally pleased with the product. I was hoping to find the much needed bug fixes, including some annoying Y2K issues, fixed in this "new" release.
However if you seeking an alternate to the expensive and bloated Quicken or MS Money, this could be it. The reporting is more extensive and versatile than Quicken. It is easy to setup and use. The stored data are reliable. When windows goes south, I've never lost more than a couple of transactions.
The down side is: this product suffers neglect. Its had too many owners who do nothing. The online banking features are probably long since obsolete, but I don't use them. It is not a bad product and probably could compete with the "big boys" if someone would fix it and bring it up-to-date, a relatively modest effort.
Bottomline: Great value, full featured, quite useable, but needs some fixes and modernizing. It is not a new version , so don't get burned like me.

SQL Server 2008, Developer Edition Review

SQL Server 2008, Developer Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Microsoft has done a clever thing with their Developer tools: they've recognized that it's more important to make it easy to put the product in the hands of someone who'll learn from it than it is to make huge sweeping profits off of every buyer. SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition provides all that a developer will need to learn and use SQL Server 2008: all that's missing here compared to the full Enterprise Edition are some of the Analytics tools and advanced features that, if you need them, you've already done all you need to do in this copy of the database, anyway (analytics is typically only critical to an Enterprise-level shop, who will most likely have full licensed server versions of SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition).
As a database technology, SQL Server 2008 has come into its own, finally being feature-rich enough and capable enough to be compared to Enterprise big-guns like Oracle. Microsoft are also nudging their way into SAP/Business Objects territory, making ancillary activities like Reporting and Transformations much easier to perform. The SQL Server 2008 interface is powerful, it is surprisingly easy to use, and installation and maintenance really do seem to be a breeze. You also get useful features like the SQL Server Books Online to help you learn, integration with Visual Studio to speed up your development time, and some surprisingly simple interfaces for doing powerful transforms/ETL like the Business Intelligence Development Studio.
If you're a developer, and you found downloading and installing the free version(s) of SQL Server 2008 to not meet your needs (or in my case, be fraught with problems), you can't argue with the price. This product works well to get you fairly far towards "guru", and can help teach old Database Dogs new tricks. :) You should be advised that this product is only intended for learning and working in a development environment and should NOT be used to deploy and/or support Production data or applications.

MD-81/82 Jetliner Review

MD-81/82 Jetliner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The CLS MD80 is awesome! The pack comes with Delta Airlines textures which is my favorite airline. Also comes with several other Airline textures. I figured out how to get the cabin view textures to work on my CLS MD81/82. In the sim icon there is a button called WV. I pushed to activate it and it activated my cabin view wing views on my CLS MD-81/82. It's a very realistic handle to it and has a very realistic cockpit. I give it 5 stars.
