(More customer reviews)I was using The Print Shop 22 De Luxe on a Vista computer. I installed Windows 7 and found 22 would not work. Broderbund said they were working on a totally new version (oddly called 2.0). When it became available, I purchased 2.0 DeLuxe through Amazon, and was very disappointed. It worked with Windows 7, but lacked many of the features that 22 DeLuxe had (eg headlines,fixing flaws in photos,and cropping photos in shapes other than rectangles). I returned it to Amazon and bought (at extra cost) Version 2.0 Professional, hoping it would have the missing features. If they are there, I can't find them. The menus appear to be the same as the DeLuxe version. The Help manual is very superficial and appears to be the same whatever version you buy. In desperation I emailed Broderbund for help but they didn't bother replying. To add to my woes the program frquently crashes and needs restarting. I returned this one to Amazon too.
Then I saw a small note on Broderbund's website, saying that Print Shop 23 (the last of the versions of the old program before they totally redid it) would work on Windows 7. I bought it (from Amazon) and it works, and is just marvellous!
Summary. Avoid all versions of The Print Shop 2.0. Buy The Print Shop 23 instead. This is still available from Broderbund or Amazon.

ItzaZoo Review

(More customer reviews)In my 20+ years of computer experience I have never had a more difficult time getting a software product I bought to actually work. I purchased both ItzaBitza and ItzaZOO for my young daughters after they tried a trial version and neither would activate through the internet, or even off line. I even got different activation codes from Sabi support after many e-mail exchanges and still can't get ItzaZOO to activate. I foolishly threw out my receipt before activating and thus cannot return, or even re-sell this worthless software.
I am an art teacher and would love to recommended this creative software, if it was actually user friendly, or even usable.
Sabi needs to re-think their horrible activation system. I understand this is to deter pirates, however hackers still find a way around any copy protection and those who choose to steal get a superior, activation free product, while paying customers get their money taken away and are left with a useless piece of plastic.
Very, VERY bad marketing, Sabi!

Which is really a roundabout way of them admitting they are rigging the review score.
I'll probably end up buying this product anyway because there are very limited options these days in the category - the golden age of respectable greeting card applications ended about 7 years ago - and when I do I will come back and post an honest review.
I'm not saying don't buy the software, I just want everyone to realize that there is more to these reviews than just 10 generically pleased buyers.

Bought for my 6 year old son who displays a lot of creativity but is already knowledgeable of the computer, so thought this would be a good program to utilize his skills. I found that click and create was similar to Photoshop which is amazing because he'll already be learning skills for when he's older.
The navigation is easy and Mia, the character, is adorable. My son's favourite part is making the gift cards where he finds excuses to make cards all the time now for the littlest of occasions! Great product.

Projects include Stickers (where the child can complete a picture using point and click), Costumes (dress up characters in outfits and outrageous accessories), and Coloring Book scenes with an 'automatic fill' feature. These can be painted or colored, rubber stamped, or personalized and can be printed out. Hours of fun. Wonderful graphics. The sticker pages include scenes for both boys and girls: outer space, picnics, birthday parties, snow scenes, beach, etc. I highly recommend this software.

(More customer reviews)If you want to use this program to make cards or projects with photos or JPEGs that you import, then it seems to work pretty well. But the program advertises that it comes with "275,000 sensational graphics." And if you want to insert those into your project, it is incredibly inconvenient and time consuming to find the ones you want. In the old, Sierra, version of Print Artist, all of the graphics, including the ones you imported, were stored in a library, which you could search by typing in a search word -- for example, "heart" if you wanted to make a card with an image of a heart on it. In this version of the software, if you type in heart, it will only show you the hearts available in whatever folder of the library you happen to have opened. And the program's graphics library is divided into dozens of folders. So you would have to open each one that might contain a heart, and search it individually. But this is only for the graphics that are included on the installation DVD, a small percentage of the supposed 275,000. Most of the graphics are on a 2nd, "Bonus DVD." This cannot even be imported into the program's graphics library, but instead can only be searched by opening one of the many dozens of folders, and looking through the images one at a time. So if you want to use any of these graphics you need a ton of free time on your hands. It's infuriating that a program I bought 12 years ago from Sierra worked so much better than this current version.

SmartDraw 2009 Review

(More customer reviews)I was lucky to stumble on Smart Draw. Once I discovered the richness and ease of use and its depth, plus (I guess) with 100 times as many templates as Visio plus really fine detailed clip art (I know its over at least 10,000 pieces,) I was hooked. I have been using Smart draw since I think 2000 or so.

I was/am sort of a Visio expert before it was purchased by Microsoft long ago. And I loved Visio - imperfections and all. But after discovering Smart Draw (the 1st true non Microsoft application that integrated itself into all the application in Microsoft Office)I did 90% of my work with it instead of Visio. It saved me time and gave me superior flexibility.

Yes I still use Visio (Smart Draw can even import VSS files) including vs. 2007, and I have upgraded Smart Draw to every new version since. They get better and better.
Unlike Visio, SD's training and examples are fantastic as is their really fine support. AND NO I DO NOT HAVE ANY RELATIONSHIP WHATSOEVER with Smart Draw.
When they branched out with their medical extension, I checked it out. Doctors should grab it! I have several great docs as clients and GAVE them gifts of the Smart Draw Medical version. Why? Many use it for training or customizing the incredible template/clip art collection for virtually any disease. Its great for showing patients custom pictures of procedures as well as an awesome adjunct for use (my orthpod does a lot of professional peer training) for training.
Unfortunately the one thing I don't like at all about Smart Draw is that it morphed when Office 2007 came out with that d__m ribbon! I hate that ribbon. But SD 2009 is still incredibly easy to use. You can even create your own Smart Draw library from your own art with its easy import tool.
If you are wise you will buy the packaged version, rather than download it. When you download it all of the templates do not come with it. Just images. if you use a new template, frequently it must be added by downloading. A real pain. SD used to offer the ability to download all the art, butt its hard to do now. But absent those two issues, Smart Draw rocks! I understand its legal version is as good as its medical one. Lawyers and police appear to really love it.

The Print Shop 2.0 Deluxe Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this to replace version 23 thinking that it would be an improvement on some of the problem areas (such as the database function). Boy, was I mistaken. When I received the disk, it had scratches and could not be read in any of my computers. After polishing the disk I finally got it to read. After installing it I realized that none of the old projects will work with the new version. That was a bummer, just by itself, but the real problem with this new version is that it doesn't do half the things the older one did.
The first project I needed to use it for became a real challenge. I wanted to make address labels for set of cards I was sending out family about my parents move. First, there is no internal database feature at all in the new version. It used extracts from your email program in a format that my email doesn't support. After doing a lot of research, I was finally able to get around that problem and then found that the only way it will print labels is to print a full page of them. I thought I must be doing something wrong so I went to the help which is almost useless. Then I tried the Broderbund website support section which was no help because there are no tips generated for this product yet. I finally put in trouble request. This was something I was familiar with because I had already put in a trouble request concerning my unreadable disk. The email reply that comes as a result of this, tells you that you will receive a reply within 48 hours, but that if your question has already been asked and there is a tip on it they will not reply at all.
As I am writing this, about 2 weeks have passed since I submitted these trouble tickets. I have not received a reply to either one and there are no FAQs that answer them. My guess is that they are so inundated by trouble tickets on this product that they have decided to just ignore them all. Shame on you Broderbund. After being a loyal customer for years, I will not be purchasing any more Broderbund products until they decide to actually start providing support.
Some may ask why I just used email to contact them. The answer is simple, the only telephone number they offer for support is long distance (no toll free) and it is listed with a warning to expect hold times averaging 30 minutes or more. I really couldn't see dumping more money into the hole called The Print Shop 2.0 Deluxe.

The Print Shop 23 Deluxe Review

(More customer reviews)After hearing that Print Shop 22 was not compatible with Windows Vista, I waited and recently purchased Print Shop 23 Deluxe. Pay attention to the operating system requirements. You must have either Windows XP SP3 or Windows Vista SP1. The installation discs are DVD-ROMs, NOT CDs, so you must have a DVD drive.
Unlike previous user reports of long delivery times, damaged discs and corrupt installs, my package arrived from Amazon in two days and included two shiny unblemished discs and a half inch thick user manual.
The setup was painless and took just under 25 minutes for a complete installation including registration and a short optional survey. A full install including artwork stored on the hard drive will take up close to 8GB.
The program launched flawlessly right after installation (no Restart required) and the features worked just fine. It will take several seconds for Print Shop to initialize (as did prior versions) but a little patience will be rewarded.
Print Shop has always been a great application and this new version follows that tradition!

It has a property that I really love about some software; if I'm not sure how to do a certain thing, I do what seems like it should work and most of the time it does. It's very friendly and obvious despite its sophistication. It's the kind of software that you can open up and just get to work with easily, but it also has a lot of depth and functionality to explore. I've been using MindManager for about seven years, including the various flavors of Microsoft Office integration and I have always been pleased with every new version of the software. You can output maps to many formats for sharing, collaborate on mind maps, and there's a really beautiful presentation mode that animates map navigation in an intelligent way for reviewing the information with others. The new version 7 has many improvements and enhancements over version 6, which I also loved. The implementation of the Microsoft Office styled ribbon tool bar is really well done, and the enhancements to mind map navigation and viewing are very helpful. I can very highly recommend this tool to anyone that needs to organize their thinking and planning.

I handle lots of information of many types. I want a quick and visual way for organizing this information into various categories. I want an ability to redefine the relationships of information easily (metaphorically: moving information within an outline). I want to link this information to personal documents and to web resources (hyperlinks). I want to process this collage of information visually (because of its ability to handle larger numbers of relationships than standard text flow). I want to have an ability to secure this information (encrypt the file). And so forth.
I've tried many ways to manage my mountain of information. A word processor outline works but visually there is an inadequate wayt to show relationships. A flatfile database works, but it is even more limited with relationships. A relational database works, but it is cumbersome to manage.
MindManager does most of what I want. Its graphical boxes can state the topics. And, these are easily re-organized if the hierarchical relationships need to be changed. It's notes window allows explanation, commentary, or other related verbiage. It allows attaching to a topic both a file and a hyperlink (and by using subtopics you can attach as many of these as you want).
MindManager has "bells and whistles" including various ways to color topics and attach flags of various kinds to them.
One of the key benefits of MindManager in comparison to its other competitors is an abilty to encrypt files. This data is, after all, your "mind's eye". If you are creative you may not want this data visable to all.
One of the features I like very well is an easy way to drag-and-drop links from the web into MindManager. When visiting a desirable web page you can click-and-drag the icon from the left of the URL window and then switch into MindManager and drop the link onto a subject. If you drop the link while the subject appears highlighted in green then the link drops into that subject itself. If, the highlighted subject is red then the link drops as a "child" subject. This is an excellent program for keeping track of myriad web pages you like but might never again happen upon.
Okay, so what DOESN'T MindManager do? In my view of a best product, the data view would automatically "focus" on the topic at hand (visually making this bigger while making "parent" and "child" topics smaller - just the way your brain handles information). MindManager doesn't do this. It has some attempts at this via some menu choices but suffice it to say they don't work very well. They don't, for example, automatically keep the current topic centered in the screen and magnified to a pre-chosen comfortable level. (This would be an excellent addition for teaching purposes.) This "focus" should be a fluid and automatic process (turned "on" or "off" at your will). There is another product, PersonalBrain (by TheBrain Technologies) which does this superbly well - however, it has no way to encrypt its files - a critical and "fatal" flaw in my view.
MindManager also does not have any well-implemented presentation mode. I teach. I want to present concepts and then "drill down" into them. I want a visual interface which both focuses on the topic at hand and additionally - in a side window - shows where the current topic is in relationship to the overall. MindManager doesn't do this. (PersonalBrain comes closer but still has some limits.)
MindManager does not allow (easily) defining multiple links between subjects. Ideally an information manager would allow you to define different types of link structures for the information. For example, if you are talking about information as it applies to one personal project then certain linkages would appear, versus another project where information might be linked differently. (PersonalBrain does allow multiple links between topics).
Overall, my "bottom line" is that I do use MindManager as my main information manager. I have numerous files. And, I use a "master" file which has links to all of the other MindManager files. For the most part, MindManager does what I need it to do. The inability to visually focus well and easily is my main "gripe".

Calendar Creator Version 12 Deluxe Review

Unfortunately, instead of fixing previous problems and enhancing the product, the creators put out upgrades which just add more graphics and "fluff" WITHOUT concentrating on making the basic program better. And, in some cases, they even REMOVE PREVIOUS functions that were terrific!
They have lost many buyers like me who used to upgrade almost every year. This program really needs to have creators who are serious about realizing the full potential of this program - which would increase their sales (and upgrade buyers) by 100-fold.
