The Bank Account Manager Review

The Bank Account Manager
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This software program is the easiest of any similar software I have ever used. It even helps me manage my debit card account. I have all my kids savings accounts in this program and that is nice that it will manage multiple accounts. It is in a tabular format. I select the account and then the tab and do my quick inputting. So easy to understand and use. I highly recommend it to any one who wants to manage their bank accounts and know a current accurate balance of each account. It does all the math and reconciling the checking account is as simple as checking off the checks that have cleared the bank per my end of the month statement.

Quicken 2002 Basic Review

Quicken 2002 Basic
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used Quicken since 1994 when I bought my first computer and Quick 2.0 came preinstalled. Since then I've tried MS-Money twice. I keep going back to Quicken. It's intuitive, logical and makes reconciling the check book a breeze. I admit that my finaces are fairly simple and others may need the deluxe or small business versions of the program, but I think for the average person the basic program is perfect. I don't upgrade every year. I don't think there's a need to. I up grade about every two yeaars. I moved from version 2.0 to Quicken 98 to Quicken 2000 to the current version. The program is very stable. I haven't had problems with bugs or crashes in any version. I recommend it.

Quicken 2004 Premier Review

Quicken 2004 Premier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been a loyal Quicken 99 Deluxe user for five years. In the past, I have tried the 2000 and 2002 versions but have always returned to '99 for various reasons. After trying 2004 Premier, I am throwing in the towel on Intuit and going elsewhere.
In the first two minutes of operation, there were several apparent problems. Reports would only print if you manually printed each individual page seperately. The program failed several times, abruptly shutting down for no reason. I would enter my entire portfolio into the setup account function only to see all the work disappear when I hit "done" (I guess the software takes "done" literally). The import/export function never worked properly, often omitting portions of transactions.
To add injury to insult, there is no email support and phone support is $$$$/minute (a free chat is available but, for some reason, is closed on Thursday and Fridays). Nothing like having to pay to have Intuit correct its own problems.
Intuit seems to have abondoned the concept of creating decent products. After the TurboTax disaster of last year, one would have thought they would have learned. Take it from me, they didn't - run away from this software as fast as you can.

This CD is so relaxing and peaceful. I love to fall asleep to it. You'll hear soothing music mixed with ocean waves and wind. The sound of the waves and the wind makes you feel like your on a tropical island. There are no words but when I listen very closely it almost sounds like I can hear the sound of someone whispering(could be my imagination though). I've only had it a few days but I can't wait see what effects it has.

Microsoft Money 2004 Deluxe Review

Microsoft Money 2004 Deluxe
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This program is a good way to keep all of your financial information in one place. I don't use a lot of the features, but it is worthwhile to have, simply from the point of view of keeping track of checking, savings, and loan balances. I also like the way it allows me to categorize spending, so I can see where my money is being spent. The best part is the ability to download credit card transactions directly. Some of the reports are a bit silly and need a lot of user input to make any sense, but I don't use the reports too much anyway.

Quicken 2005 Premier Review

Quicken 2005 Premier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Per my usual procedure, I upgrade my copy of Quicken every other year. From what I can see, Quicken 2005 has hardly changed from Quicken 2003 (not necessarily a bad thing). Some things that I have noticed as being different are that:
- The program seems to load just a tad faster than before. On my 3.0 GHz Pentium 4 computer, my 19MB Quicken file changed from loading in about 2 seconds to loading in about 1 second. Insignificant, but noticable. On the esoterically theoretical downside, the Quicken 2005 upgrade process changed that same file from 16MB to that 19MB.
- The upgrade process suggested that I change my investing account so that the "checking" side of the account was reflected in one account instead of its existing two accounts. When I agreed, it processed the account and told me it didn't work right. Instead of reversing the change, it told me to restore a backup and leave the account as it was (unfortunately, it wasn't very specific about which account had problems or what they were). Not a big problem (since Quicken automatically made that backup when I started the upgrade). But, it could have been handled better.
- It appears that it's no longer possible to enter investment transactions directly in an account's register: you have to bring up a form dialog and enter the data there. If you enter such transactions only rarely, this isn't much of a problem. However, if you batch process a bunch of these, using that form gets tiresome pretty quickly.
- Unlike Quicken 2003 Deluxe, Quicken 2005 Premier allows you to set up scheduled transactions like dividends/interest in investment accounts. I'd have been happier if the program had noted dividend payments in the data downloads and automatically set up such quarterly scheduled payments. But, still, this is a good thing.
- With Quicken 2003, I was getting frequent error messages about my brokerage uploading data for accounts which didn't exist in Quicken. Those messages seem to have disappeared.
- When Quicken 2003 tried to download a quote for a stock which didn't exist in its data base, it popped up a warning screen and stopped the download until you accepted it. Quicken 2005 continues on without user intervention (a good thing, to me).
- The Quicken 2005 icon is UGLY and non-professional. I guess it's supposed to be a yellow dollar sign on a red-filled circle. Unfortunately, it looks like the "S" on Superman's outfit.
- Intuit seems to be practicing some type of "version-creep." From what I could decipher from the box and from Intuit's web site, I had to buy Quicken 2005 PREMIER to get the same investment capabilities I had in Quicken 2003 DELUXE. It's apparently a way of sneaking in a price increase. I don't mind the price increase so much as the fact that if I hadn't examined their table of capabilities, I would have automatically bought the DELUXE version and been unable to do the things I did with the old version. Irritating and potentially very bad from a customer-retention viewpoint.
- As others have noted here, Intuit is in the process of phasing out the use of QIF files. As I've never downloaded such things from my financial institutions, that doesn't affect me. The only worry I have is that this is yet another attempt by Intuit to lock people into their program (i.e., no data exchange). I haven't tried it yet, but there is an option to export REPORTS to Excel or to the clipboard (EDIT: I've now tried the Excel export and it's just the old export to a tab delimited file -- nothing new). If I could do that with an entire data file, that would be good. I'm not too sure about doing it with only what you can generate in a report, though. Also, as a work-around for importing QIF files to Quicken, I've seen messages that if you create a CASH account as a temporary working account, you can import your data there and then use Quicken's MOVE command to get the data in the proper account. Not elegant, but usable if you need it.
- I don't use the service, but from some articles I've read (do a Search on CNet), Intuit has changed the service it uses for online bill paying. It used to use CheckFree. With Quicken 2005, it uses Metavante. This, alone, doesn't seem to be much of a problem. But, the Quicken 2005 install process AUTOMATICALLY, and WITHOUT NOTIFICATION, changes your existing CheckFree account over to Metavante. Some people are rather upset about this (I would be too, if I used that service). There doesn't seem to be any way to opt out of, or reverse, that change.
All-in-all, I'm happy with the upgrade. It's not earth-shattering, so I don't recommend everyone run out and buy it. But, if you feel it's time to get a newer version of Quicken, there's nothing blatently wrong with this version and there are a few nice additions.

Quicken 2003 Premier Home and Business
Average Reviews:

I have used Quicken for about 6 years now and love most of the program. However, the 2003 version is no improvement over 2002. The didn't fix many of the bugs and added a few new one. For example, you still can't edit your ESOP transaction once you enter them. One of the new bug is you can't resize the search results window. Also, Quicken has gone way overboard with advertising. The software in now basically ad-ware, which would be ok if they didn't sell it to you. Finally, the business functions are so cripple they're almost useless. You can't even chose the columns or entries on invoices.

Quicken 2001 Deluxe Review

Quicken 2001 Deluxe
Average Reviews:

I've used Quicken for over 5 years. Until this version I've been a big fan. This version has many unacceptable bugs. It's added up the wrong total on my credit card accounts. It leaks system resources until it crashes. It fails to update the status on several of the windows until you restart it. The bill minder sometimes doesn't flag an uncoming bill. Sometimes it will stop updating the screen and will not minimize. I seem to spend almost as much time handling techinal problems as I do my finances. This version seems to be thrown together so Intuit could make a quick buck.

Faith Finances Review

Faith Finances
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Author Tom Zordani captures the common sense approach to managing finances, family, and a love for God like no one from the current generation ever has. Fortunately, for Tom he had help from a member of the "Greatest Generation." The generation that built this country, and crushed evil doers like Hitler and Tojo. The generation that paid cash for items that they could afford, and saved for items that they couldn't. A generation that was not bogged down with political correctness, and lazy bums sitting around collecting government hand outs. I had the distinct privilege of growing up next door to Tom's inspiration for this book, his Grandfather Don. Don, like most hard working men from his generation, my Grandparents included, worked hard, grew their own produce, lived by the Golden Rule, and didn't expect to be taken care of by the government. When my Dad, who is 80 years old read through the book, he said, "I have been doing this stuff for the last 60 years, good for Tom." So although the subject matter in this book to some is not new, for most people it is very hard to follow. The good news is, Tom's book makes it easy. It's hard to follow without this book, because from a very early age we are bombarded daily with commercials for credit cards, same as cash deals, no money down loans, reverse mortgages, etc...the list goes on and on. Now start taking God out of everything and declare war on Christians, and you come to a place I like to call, 2010. When was the last commercial you saw that suggested you have faith in God, Tithe, and pay cash for your next appliance? I don't think this commercial exists, at least I have never seen it. It took guts for Tom to write this book, because there are a lot of people who won't read it due to their belief system. Or what I like to call their lack of belief system. For me personally I never fully understood tithing until I read this book. Like a lot of Catholics, I would sit through the Priest's diatribe of asking for money, struggling to stay awake, looking at my watch. After seeing the specific citings from the old and new testaments it became crystal clear to me that you really do "Reap what you Sow," and God wants you to tithe. Tom is living proof that the steps outlined in his book work! I am proud of Tom and what he has accomplished, and I can't wait to read his next book.

Quicken 2009 Premier Review

Quicken 2009 Premier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased Quicken 2009 in hopes of upgrading from the discontinued Microsoft Money product. I have been a long time user of Microsoft Money and have a lot of data to transfer. Currently, the transfer process is very cumbersome. You need to rename your accounts & categories to fit within the smaller naming conventions of Quicken. There are multiple reports you need to print out which a separate Quicken utility uses to import the transactions. And finally, there is a limit of 10,000 transactions that can be imported. I have tried to import multiple batches of transactions to stay under limits but no go.
Overall, still very difficult to upgrade from MS Money to Quicken 2009. Intuit has said they will fix this in the 2010 Quicken product and I look forward to that.

1 - No difference that I can find over 2005. Funny thing is that I said this with my 2005 from 2004 version purchase! I guess I will never learn, I'm a sucker for the lastest and greatest Money software. Really, you do not need this if you have 2005, you can live without backing up to CD/DVD.
2 - I have not found any bugs. You are thinking, Ya, so? If you were an early adopter of 2005 (the buggiest POS that MS Money put out), you would have seen this a huge achievement also.
Summary - nothing really exciting over the previous 2 versions, wait for the free offer with your tax software next year. If you are new to personal finance software, you really need to get this.

This program advertises synchornization right on the cover but after an hour of trying and reading the limited directions i came across this little gem of information. This is a direct quote from the instructions.
"FYI : : : : :There is no support for direct synchronization at this time. There is an ongoing effort to solve this problem and as soon as it is possible, it will be provided as a feature of PocketMoney."
Bottom line. If you need a completly stand alone financial program for your PDA it's ok. If you need something to transfer info back and forth to your desktop stay well clear of this product.

Pocket Money 2.1 Review

Pocket Money 2.1
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a HUGE fan of PocketMoney and have been for a year and half ever since I tried out the demo version. This simple little program is easy to use and will help you to keep your finances in line with minimal effort! I have tried Pocket Quicken as well and I'm happy to say that Pocket Money 2.1 is easier to use and more powerful (as well as less expensive!) than even Pocket Quicken. And as I mentioned in my title, this the only Palm app that I use on a daily basis..aside from the Datebook!
I use this in place of Quicken or MS Money. You heard me right...this little app is robust enough to be your stand alone financial software. Even better is that it's portable and does many of the things the desktop money managers do. Of course you can use it as a supplement for Quicken/MS Money as it does export QIF files, but on it's own, PM has the power and features to do everything you need.
Setting up accounts is easy as is doing the actual tracking of debits/credits and so on. You can set up recurring payments, regular deposits, and so on. You can set up which accounts are counted as part of your total net worth on the overview screen so that you always have a snapshot of just how much money you really have. The portability factor is great...stop at an ATM or purchase something and you can quickly record the transaction with a minimum of stylus taps and not have to worry about entering the receipts in your desktop PC when you get home.
The app is stable (never crashes), small in size (only a few hundred Kilobytes) and the password screen is a welcome basic safety feature. Plus, all your card info and bank contact data can safely be stored in this app in the event that you lose your wallet or need to call your bank!
If you buy just one Palm application or if you feel the need to organize your finances (and keep them organized), Pocket Money is a worthwhile purchase. I can't say enough about this great product!
