DO NOT purchase and update if your current version is working fine. the BIGGEST mistake we made is updating to 10.0. Constantly crashes, loses transactions, cumbersome, requires too many clicks. Horrible.

Kohan II: Kings of War Review

Kohan II: Kings of War
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The game takes away some of the time spending micromanagement tasks that most games have... Instead of spending time figuring out where to place buildings (required for upgrades and extra units) they are automatically built within the city, this allows for quicker army setup and allows to focus more on the strategy skills... I must admit the computer opponet is very clever and it takes time to adjust to this way of playing...
Overall, the game is great it doesn't allow for customized cities but then again we all develop a standard building placement plan after a couple of games...
The random map feature does a great job of laying out new maps for unlimited play alternatives....

Heroes of Might & Magic 5 Review

Heroes of Might and Magic 5
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Disclosure: I'm a huge fan of all the Heroes of Might & Magic (HoMM) games going back to HoMM1, AND, I'm a huge fan of Macs, so much so that I don't use a Windows machine at home. For me, I *had* to buy this game simply to "vote with my dollars" and encourage future Mac HoMM development. But, I will try to put aside my biases and rate the game on its own merits.
If you are unfamiliar with HoMM games, stop reading this review and *run* to buy HoMM2 and HoMM3 immediately for the Windows platform. (Why not get them for Mac? More on this later.) I won't get too involved in describing the games, as there are plenty of sites with great descriptions. HoMM games are turn-based strategy in a fantasy setting. The player manages heroes, armies, castles, resources, artifacts, spells, and quests, and competes with other human or AI players to conquer the map. As heroes gain experience, their primary stats improve, and they can learn specialty skills that help them in unique ways. This description hardly does them justice, but suffice it to say, HoMM games are incredibly addictive. Over the years, I've returned to HoMM2 and HoMM3 many times, as they are among the best games ever made, and highly replayable.
In fact, all I really want is HoMM2 and/or HoMM3 ported to work natively under OS X. I would pay dearly for such a privilege. This would allow me to avoid the hassle of Windows and still have access to some of the best games of all time. True, HoMM2 and HoMM3 are both available for Mac, but both are pre-OS X, so you need to run them in Classic mode. That would be acceptable, except for the fact that Apple doesn't support Classic for modern, Intel-based Macs, and is phasing Classic out entirely under their upcoming operating system Leopard. Though I haven't tried this yet, I recommend just using the Windows versions of both classic games and running them under Parallels/Fusion/Boot Camp, hence my earlier recommendation. (HoMM4 was written natively for OS X. Unfortunately, it's also the worst of the entire series and doesn't compel replay years later.)
This left a hole in the Mac HoMM experience. HoMM5 fills that hole nicely. First off, HoMM5 undid some of the failed experiments of HoMM4. Your hero no longer can fight and die directly in battle, you can't have a band of all heroes, and you can't have a band of just monster units. This restores the most interesting gameplay aspects of HoMM2 and HoMM3. It's been said that HoMM5 is just HoMM3 in 3D -- so far, I concur. HoMM5 has all the interesting exploration, empire building, skill-acquiring, and great mini-game combat of the earlier classics. I'm particularly intrigued by HoMM5's interesting primary and secondary skill system. With the release of the v1.5 patch, the game is plenty stable enough.
I downgraded the game to 4 stars because of the steep system requirements. I have a maxed out Mac mini, I've turned the game down to its very minimum settings, and still the game is tediously slow to respond. Frankly, I would have preferred a 2D version of the game if it meant the game would run well on normal hardware.
But overall, a very strong game and worthy successor to the classics of HoMM2 and HoMM3, and it's native OS X to boot.

ACT 6.0 - 5 User Review

ACT 6.0 - 5 User
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been a faithful user of ACT since 1998. I've always found it intutive and an absolute must for my sales activities. I've been such a big proponent of ACT that I often recommend it during my company's sales consulting practice. I've attended several one day training courses from ACT approved training centers to improve my operating of the software.
I've always upgraded shortly after ACT has brought a new version to market. The changes have always been minimal, but you could always see the improvements from one version to the other and they always made sense. The improvements have made ACT easier to use and much easier to use with Outlook.
I decided to do the trial version of the newest ACT to see how I would like it......and I didn't.
What a disaster. The only positive point was that I kept my ACT 2004 as a seperate program and am I glad I did.
The new version of Act was slow, clunky, very unintutitive and hard to operate. I lost all ability to synch with Outlook. It is a disaster. I hope ACT will improve the system before jaming a new one down our throats. I bet I get an email once a week urging me to upgrade and how the price will go up if I don't. After the trial session I wouldn't upgrade if they gave it to me.
Stick with your older version of ACT until they get the major problems with the new version repaired.
Shame on you ACT for bringing a product to market that is vastly inferior to your older versions.

Garmin TOPO South Central U.S. Map DVD (Windows or Mac) Review

Garmin TOPO South Central U.S. Map DVD (Windows or Mac)

My sd card just arrived and I put it in my Nuvi 1450 and nothing happened and no instructions came with it to tell me how to activate the card and properly use it. So since the Garmin people had their heads up their butts when they forgot to put any instructions with this product, I will share with yall what I found out after being on the phone with Garmin for 45 minutes.
I have a Nuvi 1450 and this is how I have to activate it and unactivate everytime I desire to take this on the water with me. Go to "tools", then "settings", then "map", then "info" (on the very bottom of the skin next to the back arrow). Once you have pushed "info" uncheck the base map and just check your "US Inland Lakes" (or whatever lake sd you buy). The idea is to just let your GPS focus on the Lakes SD card and not the base map or other road maps on the GPS system. Garmin recommended also going under "Map View" and changing it to "Track Up".
I have looked for but have not found how to activate all the cool features such as "mariner's eye" or "fish eye". It does put a symbol to indicate where all the boat ramps are located and nearby marinas, and mile marker from dam.
I have not used this product yet but did get to see the contour map of some of my local lakes. I must say I'm a little dissappointed with the quality of the contour lines. It does show you the contour but it looks like a kid drew the bulky lines and depth number if your not zoomed close. I wish Garmin would have taken a little more pride and time in this product and made the contour details more accurate and specific and not so sloppy looking (you will under stand once you see it). Overall I'm still glad to have it because I do a lot of bowfishing and juglining at night time and this should help me know where I am on the water in the middle of the night and where some catfish holes and shallow flats should be.
Overall, I'm super happy with my GPS and I believe it will be great on the water as well as roads. I tried the LOWERENCE Safari and an Etrex and must say, that I'm so much happier now having a nice GPS in my truck that I can use on the road very very easily and accurately and on the water when needed! Great product and great setup and after using the two previously mentioned geocaching gps systems, a car GPS that can also navigate on water in one GPS system is by far the best way to go!

My wife and I found this product and just had to buy it! It has loads of features and abilities that are easy to use even for someone who is not to aquainted with a computer. It has helped us save quite a bit of money and at the same time let us be creative with the memories of our childrens progress through life. It is simply a must have for any parent looking to save some money while being creative and original, without ripping their hair out.
