Franklin Covey Planning Software 8.0 Review

Franklin Covey Planning Software 8.0
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The most annoying bug in my experience of running this software under Windows 2000 is that every time I open it, the toolbars have each moved down to a separate line, and I must realign them all in one row. Frequently and inexplicably, the work panes have all shrunk, and I must resize them all manually (this is not simply done with one click of a Restore button). So, for a software package that advertises that it's going to help you organize your time, it fails from the start. The interface is clumsy--it's still operating in the Windows 3.1 days and struggling to keep up with the current Microsoft interface. Clearly, Franklin Covey has not invested in software design and maintenance. The product is loaded with bugs. There is no added advantage to using this product over Microsoft Outlook. Scheduling is a joke.

Franklincovey Address/Phone Review

I'm uninstalling this thing - it's useless.
I found the layout confusing. It's got some pretty serious errors where, for example, the buttons don't appear in a dialog box so the application is effectively hung. By default, it doesn't print the 'Company Name' of your contacts. Huh? That's kind of important information! How could they think we didn't want the 'Company Name' printed?
I can't find any way to fix this silly state of affairs without buying their 'form designer' software, so I'm uninstalling it and going back to using my cellphone as an address book.

QuickBooks Customer Manager 2.5 Review

QuickBooks Customer Manager 2.5
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used, or should say TRIED to use, this product though version 1.x, 2.x and now 2.5. When it works it is very useful. My trial of version 2.5 went very well so I purchased the upgrade. The day my purchased version was on the UPS truck I moved the balance of my customer data into the trial version. I went to look at the "Names" tab and had a big red "X" across the screen. Several calls to tech support later I found that the computer screen font resolution - actually the "DPI" setting **MUST** be 96 DPI or the software will corrupt the database. I have a high end notebook with a screen resolution of 1680x1050 and my DPI setting was set to 120 so the fonts and icons were more readable. I have about 60 programs running on the same computer that run fine at 120 DPI and there is NO REASON WHY I SHOULD HAVE TO CHANGE IT TO FIT THE SOFTWARE.
The result >> The database I had been loading and working with for about 25 days AND the balance of it I had just put it were trashed! It took me over 6 hours to reload, resysnc and cleanup the data in Outlook, QuickBooks and Customer Manager. Even after that Customer Manager stills trys to push what it thinks is customer info that it got from Outlook into QuickBooks - even though there is nothing in the records that would indicate it is customer data (no groups or categories even remotely flagged as "customer".)
One thing that should make you suspicious is that when you call QuickBooks tech support option >>> #1

Check the date of the reviews before taking them serious. 6 of the 8 reviews were written on Sept. 28, and the other two reviews are doubtful. Just an observation and in conflict with the reviews of the non premium version ACT! 2008 10.0 .

My Ultimate Organizer Review

My Ultimate Organizer
Average Reviews:

I mainly wanted this for the address book but liked the idea of the password manager and all the forms that came with it. The address book is so inflexible! If you have your address alphabetized by last name, your address labels will print like that, (i.e. Smith, Joe) otherwise your address are alphabetized by first name. No options for anything else. What if I can't remember someone's 1st name? I have to go through all the addresses to find it! I would not reccomend it and should have listened to the other review!

So, you find some cheap software, load it on your computer and start adding contacts. All is well and good, but then you need to REGISTER the darn thing... in fact it prevents you from using the software until you register it.
So, then you click the Register now button... and LOW AND BEHOLD... you cant. The company is gone, the website doesnt work and the phone number is disconnected.
Sure hope you didn't spend a lot of time and energy on the software before being locked out of it... like I did.

ACT By Sage 2008 10.0 Review

ACT By Sage 2008 10.0
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been in IT for 20 years and am currently an IT manager for a Fortune 500 company. Act 2006 and then the "upgrade" to Act 2008 have been the worst software experiences I have ever seen, bar none. With a ~12 seat install of Act premium, we got Act 2006 up and running with the help of a Certified Act consultant. It was ugly and the entire user base complained of not only Act being very slow, but the computers slowed to a crawl when performing all other functions as well. See the reviews of Act 2006 and you will see my experience is the norm.
An upgrade to 2008 was ordered. Cold feelings of dread went up and down my spine. The same consultant returned and we started.
Every single machine had a minimum of 6 errors related to the upgrade. Some had many more. A listing of actual and paraphrased errors follows. The consultant struggled until late in the evening to get the first four or five working. SQL was removed and installed, registries were hacked and edited. Finally she got those working.
The next day I personally attempted to do the rest.
Eventually after about 5 person-days I got the machines installed, and now the users are telling us that this version is even slower than the dog called Act 2006.
This should not reflect badly on the consultant. She was quite good. This is all about the product put out by Rage Software.Run, don't walk away from this evil thing called Act.
----------------------------------
Small sample of the errors I jotted down as we went down this bloody path:
All users had errors when adding an Outlook address book, Licensing error-User count. Which eventually went away after 6-8 tries or 10 minutes, not sure which fixed it. We had the proper volume licenses.
When updating the local DB all laptops gave an error pop up "Error in the Application" with "ok" being the only choice. It seemed to complete ok after this however.
Over half had SQL errors upon upgrading from 2006 to 2008. Gave up and removed 2006 and 5 related pieces instead of upgrading.
None could register online due to Act not speaking SSL through a Windows configured proxy. (A fairly standard configuration in a corporation) We did work around this by connecting/activating with another method.
Half of the laptops caused Outlook 2003 errors when launching. "Error in registry for extension: (Exchange Extensions) Syntax or format of the registry entry is incorrect." This dialog appeared about a dozen times in a row and then Outlook would eventually launch.
25% had errors when upgrading related to SQL. The upgrade from 2006-2008 did not handle the SQL portion well at all. Once we manually uninstalled Act 2006, 4-5 SQL pieces and the XML 6 Parser, and then installed 2008 and then manually installed SQL Server it went somewhat better. There were still a couple that had major errors though relating to SQL even after doing this elaborate process.
Errors with SQL failing to start - SQLWriter-SQLDumper library failed initialization. Installation Corrupt/tampered with.
SQL Server could not find specified named instance (ACT7) please specify the name of an existing instance at the invocation of sqlserver.exe
And on and on and on.....

Franklincovey Planplus Version 5 For Outlook Review

Franklincovey Planplus Version 5 For Outlook
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am completely dependent on Outlook and I use a number of the 7 habits tools as well as a modified Franklin Covey planner format so trying to merge them all together would be very valuable for me.
Unfortunately, Franklin Covey has yet to provide such a solution for me. I tried the outlook add-on a few years ago and while I was impressed with the system it had some short comings - especially as far as the stability of the program itself. I recently stumbled across a link to a trial for the most recent version (5.0) of the Outlook product so I thought I'd give it another try.
In short:
I love how easy it is to scheduling task and setup projects. It's nice to be able to easily code and then drag and drop tasks onto a daily or weekly schedule. Viewing tasks and projects is also nice.
I like being reminded to set and keep goals as well as missions and compass headings. While I'm not fanatical about these things, just seeing them on the tool bar seems to help me keep myself focused on the bigger picture and things are are really important.
I like the general format of the dashboard - it's pretty good at cramming a bunch of information in one screen.
However:
I hate how unstable the software is. It CONSTANTLY crashes my Outlook. In many cases I actually have to restart my computer to get Outlook back up. I had this problem with the last version I bought and the crashes are what made me abandon the program - what waste of $100 that was. I thought the new version may have solved that but I guess not - it is WORSE.
I hate how SLOW this add-on makes Outlook. It really bogs my system down. Business Contact Manager is a little slow to bring up but once your in it it runs pretty well - not PlanPlus. It's painful.
I hate that you can't customize the dashboard.
I hate that it doesn't play well with Business Contact Manager.
I hate the fact that when you set estimate times for tasks that those time estimates don't come with the task when you drag it to your calendar - wouldn't that make sense?
Bottom line - great concept, pretty good tool - absolutely awful software coding. Looks pretty - functions poorly. And it's backed up by very poor customer support.
I have one day left on my trial and I will, regrettably, have to uninstall it today. As much as I like what I cad do with it - I simply can not put up with the crashes.

FRANKLIN PLANNER SOFTWARE Review

FRANKLIN PLANNER SOFTWARE
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Franklin Planner 7.1 was to upgrade Ascend 4 that I'd been using since 1995. The new program has only a subset of the features the older program had. Ascend 4 worked great, but recent changes in my work Windows XP environment was causing Ascend to be terminated at odd times. The new program comes with converters for Ascend 5 AND for Ascend 4, except the Ascend 4 converter is missing one 16 bit .DLL file. Calls to Covey only resulted in "We no longer support this software". One .DLL, that's all I needed. My last Franklin Covey software. If I'm to manually enter my info from Ascend 4 into another program, it won't be any of theirs!
