Franklin Covey Planning Software 8.0 Review

Franklin Covey Planning Software 8.0
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The most annoying bug in my experience of running this software under Windows 2000 is that every time I open it, the toolbars have each moved down to a separate line, and I must realign them all in one row. Frequently and inexplicably, the work panes have all shrunk, and I must resize them all manually (this is not simply done with one click of a Restore button). So, for a software package that advertises that it's going to help you organize your time, it fails from the start. The interface is clumsy--it's still operating in the Windows 3.1 days and struggling to keep up with the current Microsoft interface. Clearly, Franklin Covey has not invested in software design and maintenance. The product is loaded with bugs. There is no added advantage to using this product over Microsoft Outlook. Scheduling is a joke.

Build In Time Review

Build In Time
Average Reviews:

I came across this game because I liked the build-a-lot series, but was slightly bored with them after a while. Well, not with this one!! It has many similarities such as building up the neighborhood, having goals you need to meet, etc... but is not as tedious and is slightly more fast-paced. It's somewhat of a time-management game. You have so much time to build up all the lots in the game, and your customers show up on the left with their orders. But it's not just simply houses you build here. You have garages, parks, and different paint colors. So it's more detailed than the first build-a-lot game. I loved it and highly recommend it!!

Farm Frenzy 3 Review

Farm Frenzy 3
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a huge fan of the Farm Frenzy series. I've played all of them and have enjoyed watching them improving and advance the game with each release. Melesta made some nice improvements with Farm Frenzy 3, but they also made a couple of changes that were unnecessary and harmed the overall enjoyment of the game.
For those not familiar with the Farm Frenzy series, it's a strategy plus time management game. Not all levels are pure speed. Some levels can only be completed by doing things in a certain order. The player is given a list of goals to complete within a certain amount of time. Those goals include either collecting money, produce, or manufacturing products from supplies either produced by the farm animals or bought. As the player collects more coins, they are able to upgrade their equipment. The `goal' of Farm Frenzy 3 is to help Scarlet become Farm Union President. To do that, she must help five friends from different areas of the world with their farm. This is the first version to have a story line and well, it's a weak one. It's there, but certainly will not win any prizes for originality or depth.

Instead of the map being streets that intersect and the player goes around the board, the map is divided into 5 sections representing different countries. Like with previous versions the player workers their way through each level, unlocking new equipment and upgrading supplies. Unlike earlier versions, the game play is not linear. There are only so many levels that can be played in each section before moving on to another section. Additionally, each section has animals that are unique. For example, Peru has big horn sheep that drop horns while Antarctica has walruses. Not every section will have animals that produce horns, adding to the strategy of needing to buy supplies in order to finish certain products. I like the way they designed the areas and the extra challenge created by not being able to simply raise money to buy the animal needed. Farm Frenzy 2 and Pizza Party both required buying supplies, but version 3 enhanced this feature and utilized the plane well.
Farm Frenzy has always had adorable characters and this time is no exception. The sheep are huggable cute. The animation has been improved from previous versions and the new animals are great. The penguins flipping fish are exceptionally entertaining. The developers have made some great improvements from earlier versions and those efforts are well appreciated.
The developers also created a great way to utilize the bears and predators. In the past, the players has had to capture these and then sell them for ridiculously low amounts. With the addition of the `fitting' room, those predators can now be dressed up and sold for an incredibly high amount. It makes catching and storing them worth wild, as well as making it easy to earn cash in a hurry.
I was very happy to see the developers decided to go back to shorter `recipes'. I enjoyed Pizza Party, but most of the difficulty in that game was remembering the ingredients to make the requested pizza. Farm Frenzy 3's biggest recipe requires 4 items making the game much more enjoyable. This was a great improvement by the developers.
There were some parts I didn't like. I HATE how they changed the dogs. The dogs used to keep the predators away and help cage them. Now they bulldoze the predators, removing both the dog and the predator from the board. There are a couple levels where the dogs removing the bears is the only challenging part of the level. When the player needs to raise money with the bears, the dogs prevent that from happening. These are suppose to be helpful to the player, not a hindrance. This is my number one complaint with the game.
I missed the long level. Usually there is one level that takes about 40 minutes to play. The player has to start by trapping predators to raise the money to buy animals and complete their goals. This time there isn't one. There's still the award for taking at least 30 minutes to win a level, but the longest level is approximately 15 minutes long. To win this award, the player has to simply set there for 30 minutes and do nothing. Anyway, I would have liked to have had the one long level. They were always a lot of fun.
Melesta needs to invest in beta testers that will catch things like awards that can only be won by sitting idle or typos. There's really no excuse for some of the errors that are in the game. The lack of attention to detail is evident in a lot of time management games, but some things should have been caught and corrected before being released (i.e. Funny's Arm instead of Funny's Farm). Also, it's obvious whoever did the story got kinda tired of it. Usually there's at least a we did it. Instead after getting so far the story line just disappears. It's a little thing, but shows a lack of attention to details. Lastly, the ethnic stereotyping is probably suppose to be funny, but I'm not sure those being depicted will find it so.
Overall, Farm Frenzy 3 is a great game. It is quite a bit harder than the previous versions. However, it is possible to get gold the first time through the game. It is challenging, fun, and addicting and a nice fix for strategy and time management junkies.

Jane's Hotel Review

Jane's Hotel
Average Reviews:

Just purchased this CD and have installed the game using THREE different operating systems -- Windows 98, XP & Vista systems and the game crashes at the Same Moment with the Same Error on the .exe file. Thought it was an issue with the version of DirectX, but not (I tried it with versions 7a and 9). If you're having the same problem, then I wouldn't think it's your system in regards to memory and the video card. My system exceeds the minimum requirements to play this game. Have emailed the manufacturer but have not heard back yet.

The Agile Manager's Guide to Goal-Setting and Achievement (The Agile Manager Series) Review

The Agile Manager's Guide to Goal-Setting and Achievement (The Agile Manager Series)
Average Reviews:

Wadsworth does a thorough job of explaining what most of us think of as our typical goals--better job, bigger home, etc. A good, solid read that is accessible to more than just Ph.Ds. It's as good as Guerilla PR: Wired, which deals more with how to attain business goals. If you're interested in focusing more on business goals and not personal ones though, Guerilla PR: Wired is definitely the way to go.

Daycare Nightmare Review

Daycare Nightmare
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great time management style game with a clever twist that has penalties for not keeping up with the tasks the game sets for you - for instance if you don't change a vampire baby's diapers fast enough he will bite you which slows you down for a brief period of time, or if the ghost baby gets upset he scares all the other babies causing them to wet themselves (and of course you need to change all the diapers then). This twist adds a new dimension to managing your tasks as you not only have to consider what reward you might miss if you fail to keep up with the tasks at hand but also what penalty you will suffer as well.
The game seems to have a smooth difficulty ramp up (I'm only on level 20 so far) and for the most part is challenging enough without being too hard, though there was one level I lost several times before finally beating it :-)
So if you like fast paced games that challenge your ability to think quick and make fast decisions then this one is a definite buy.

Franklincovey Planplus Version 5 For Outlook Review

Franklincovey Planplus Version 5 For Outlook
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am completely dependent on Outlook and I use a number of the 7 habits tools as well as a modified Franklin Covey planner format so trying to merge them all together would be very valuable for me.
Unfortunately, Franklin Covey has yet to provide such a solution for me. I tried the outlook add-on a few years ago and while I was impressed with the system it had some short comings - especially as far as the stability of the program itself. I recently stumbled across a link to a trial for the most recent version (5.0) of the Outlook product so I thought I'd give it another try.
In short:
I love how easy it is to scheduling task and setup projects. It's nice to be able to easily code and then drag and drop tasks onto a daily or weekly schedule. Viewing tasks and projects is also nice.
I like being reminded to set and keep goals as well as missions and compass headings. While I'm not fanatical about these things, just seeing them on the tool bar seems to help me keep myself focused on the bigger picture and things are are really important.
I like the general format of the dashboard - it's pretty good at cramming a bunch of information in one screen.
However:
I hate how unstable the software is. It CONSTANTLY crashes my Outlook. In many cases I actually have to restart my computer to get Outlook back up. I had this problem with the last version I bought and the crashes are what made me abandon the program - what waste of $100 that was. I thought the new version may have solved that but I guess not - it is WORSE.
I hate how SLOW this add-on makes Outlook. It really bogs my system down. Business Contact Manager is a little slow to bring up but once your in it it runs pretty well - not PlanPlus. It's painful.
I hate that you can't customize the dashboard.
I hate that it doesn't play well with Business Contact Manager.
I hate the fact that when you set estimate times for tasks that those time estimates don't come with the task when you drag it to your calendar - wouldn't that make sense?
Bottom line - great concept, pretty good tool - absolutely awful software coding. Looks pretty - functions poorly. And it's backed up by very poor customer support.
I have one day left on my trial and I will, regrettably, have to uninstall it today. As much as I like what I cad do with it - I simply can not put up with the crashes.

I actually like time management games, but they can be VERY repetitive. This one stands out in that it actually takes a bit of puzzle solving with the goals for each level (in a given amount of days for each). It's not just all about how fast you can do the same things over and over (and over). Thinking is good :)
The last two levels, starting at 28 are extremely difficult though, and may put some off.

I LOVED this game. It has the feel of Hot Dog Bush, but it is much longer and keeps moving. It isn't terribly difficult (I never actually failed a day), but it isn't so easy it becomes dull. I loved the Challenge after you beat the story. It gave another 9 or 10 hours of game play at least to get to the bonus location.
