Been quite useful so far, especially just to keep track of where you are (just about every road, big and small, in the US is in the map) or when you're in a new place and you just want to find the closest Italian restaurant with the GPS of yours. (Of course it probably only works with selected Garmin GPSs)
Maps in this CD are about 2 or 3 years old so some new roads will probably be missing. Each city map takes about 7Mb and with the eTrex's serial connection to the PC, it takes ages to upload.
Once you finally get over the uploading time, its a bliss. Like you're in control of everything.

The MapSource MetroGuide U.S.A. CD-ROM contains the electronic equivalent of several paper maps and represents the same information found on MetroGuide cartridges. MetroGuide U.S.A. includes trip and waypoint management functions that allow you to transfer waypoints, routes, and tracks between your PC and nearly all Garmin GPS units while viewing detailed maps on your PC screen.
With a map-download-compatible Garmin GPS, MetroGuide U.S.A. allows you to load map detail, addresses, business listings, and points of interest from any region in the continental United States, Alaska, and Hawaii. You can transfer MetroGuide U.S.A. data from a personal computer to your GPS unit or to a blank or preprogrammed data cartridge (compatible with StreetPilot III).
You'll see details such as the locations of restaurants, banks, gas stations, and tourist attractions, plus much more. In addition, you can use your GPS to look up street addresses and points of interest, then navigate to them with the help of onscreen arrows and street-level detail. You'll be able to drive to any city address in the large database using an electronic map that shows street-level detail.
Note on compatibility: The trip and waypoint management functions of this product work with nearly all Garmin GPS units, excluding the GPS 100 family and panel-mount aviation units. Specifically, the map download features of this product work with the eTrex Legend, eTrex Vista, eMap, GPS V, StreetPilot, StreetPilot ColorMap, StreetPilot III, and GPSMAP 76, 176, 182, 188, 232, 238, 295, 2006, and 2010.
