(More customer reviews)My selection of Memo Backup Professional was the result of a pretty exhaustive search. Overall I am quite pleased with the program.
I needed a backup program that would accomplish the following: 1) allow numerous custom backup plans that would back up my important directories to external hard disk drives; b) do so such that the backed-up files are accessible, so that if you need one you can drag and drop it to its proper, original location; c) allow scheduling of the backups at staggered times; d) be compatible with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit; e) allow the use of any hard disk drive as a backup destination, not just a drive by a certain manufacturer. Specifically, I needed a program that would allow me to back up my huge digital photograph directory, my iTunes directory, and my archived video files. These are all very large directories--a terabyte or greater in size.
The above all sounds pretty basic, and it is, but it is surprising how many programs there are out there that lack one of the above attributes. I evaluated five backup programs before I found this one. Memeo Backup Professional really does do it all. For those of you who want a "cloud backup" i.e. over-the-internet backup, it will do that too. I have not evaluated this feature because I do not use it at this time.
Memeo setup is pretty easy, with one nasty little quirk. For reasons only a deranged programmer would know, all of my system's integral hard disk drives were initially "excluded" as valid backup drives. Very weird and frustrating. You have to manually remove these drives (which of course are the ones that almost all users are using the program to back up) from the exclusion list. Every single time you set up a custom backup. Weird, stupid, and counter-intuitive. The Program does guide you through this process, but this is a process that should not be there at all.
Other nits. The little icons that allow the various settings to each backup plan are very tiny, and I did not notice them at first. God help anyone who is slightly farsighted/needs reading glasses.
These are minor nits, although they did not seem minor at the time I was trying to figure them out. Otherwise, this is an excellent program that is worth the money. It appears to be a very well-behaved program under Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, and it allows you to tinker with its settings while it is conducting even multiple backups. Many of its competitors do not.
Highly recommended. RJB.
